These are SO INTERESTING! I need to ask my mom about my sisters. I'm adopted so I have no idea on mine. My story of how they "got" me though was they got a call late at night (after waiting years to adopt) that they needed to fly to Illinois to adopt a baby girl. They got a flight a few hours later and had less than a day to figure out a name for me!

I was a surprise. My parents had just bought a house and were painting it themselves and doing other work around the house before moving in. My mom said she was sick and exhausted, but chalked it up to paint fumes and working full time then going to work on the house.

I think she was 2 or 3 months along before she finally took a pregnancy test. I was born 4 days before my due date.

Same with my brother. Busy and didn't notice a missed period, but home tests and blood tests came back negative. She finally for a positive blood test, and my brother was born 6 months later -- overdue!

It blows my mind that tests weren't accurate then! (1988)

I know very little. I was born in 1985 and she labored for 24 hours before being told she wouldn't progress past 3 cm and was forced to have a c-section. After I was born, she said the nurses would only bring me in to nurse and would put me at the end of the bed and walk out. By the time she was able to get to me, I was frantic with hunger and the nurse came back and gave me formula (my mom wanted to BF). On the way out of the hospital, the nurse would not let my parents hold me and took them to the payment window. They had to call my grandmother and have her pay with her credit card before they were allowed to take me home.

I don't know if that was routine treatment of patients in 1985 or if it was because my parents were a biracial couple. My mom doesn't really like to talk about it, other than to say, "Twenty-four hours of labor, and then they cut you out..." before launching into some other story (usually when she's mad at me or feels I have wronged her in some way).

I was my mom's 5th child and I was born extremely fast (all of her labors are fast).

Since my mom had very fast labors and they lived out in the country, her doctor told my parents to start driving as soon as she had any signs of labor. A few days before my due date, mom woke up in the middle of the night and just "didn't feel right". No labor pains, but she felt off.

Dad wanted to go to the hospital, but mom was embarassed because she felt she wasn't really in labor. However, dad insisted...so they went.

When they arrived at the hospital, the nurse looked at mom (not in pain, not breathing heavily) and told her she wasn't in labor but to go lay down in a room to rest until the doctor could check her. My mom rested--and fell asleep. The nurse woke her up to check her and TOLD her she was having a baby. I was born 30 minutes later.

Like...WTF.

It's like I just slid out with hardly any contractions or pain. I was *so* hoping I'd inherited those genes, but my labor was 2 days long!! grrr.

(side note: my parents had another kid after me and my dad was SO worried about my mom having a baby at home alone while he was at work that he and the doctor decided--without even consulting my mom--to induce her 2 weeks before her due date. And then they just told my mom that was what was going down. To be fair, at that point they were 41 and my mom was a high-risk pregnancy then.)

I know that my mom was eating a cheeseburger and watching a movie on TV in early labor, and a nurse told my dad over the phone to take the cheeseburger away and get her to the hospital. She was mad about her burger! And they didn't see the end of the movie until ten years later. Lol.

I was born with a cone shaped head and tons of black hair. I was placed on my mother and immediately opened my eyes and just looked at her. My dad always called it "the look" and he says my daughter does it too.

I'm very lucky that my dad enjoys writing as a hobby so he wrote my birth story for me when I was in college. It's really nothing unique in terms of the actual labor, but he added cute details from his point of view.
The main thing is that I was born on Labor Day and my grandparents were having their big annual party. So my dad had gone to bed hungry the night before in anticipation of all the food. Needless to say he was pretty hungry the next day :-) He and my mom still playfully argue over whether he ate her sandwich that was brought post-delivery. And instead of calling multiple numbers he just had to call my grandparents. They had a phone out on their screened patio and he heard the cheers of excitement when my grandma announced to the crowd (they usually had 50-100 people over!)

I should ask my mom for her version of my birth story so I can hear about the actual labor part!

I was born at 34 weeks in 1986. My mom started leaking amniotic fluid, and had to be induced early. I know she went completely med-free, and she had a pretty long labor. I spent a little over 2 weeks in the NICU because my lungs weren't fully developed. I weighed 6 lbs 11 oz, which is pretty big for a premie.

@2PeasinaPod: my brother was born with a broken collarbone too. He was born fast (within 20 minutes of checking in) and big (+10lbs).
I just asked my mom about how she cared for him with his broken collarbone and I guess newborn bones have a cartilage-like casing around them so all they had to do was pin his sleeve in a position that would let it heal properly and my mom brought him for X-rats to make sure it did.

I was a surprise. My mom was told she couldn't have kids. They adopted my sister and 6 years later found out they were pregnant with me. My mom had to have an emergency c-section at 32 weeks because of a placental abruption. I weighed 3lbs 5oz and had to be rushed to another hospital with a NICU. I was only in the NICU for a week and was doing well enough they could send me back to my town's smaller hospital where I stayed for another 3 weeks. I shocked everyone in that I only spent 4 weeks total in the hospital even though I was 8 weeks early.

But to add even more stress to my poor parents, my older sister was already in the hospital when my mom had to have the emergency c-section. She had just been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and almost died. My poor dad was rushing around between all three of us the day I was born and then went with me to the bigger hospital. Luckily my mom was able to spend most of the day with my sister in her room and my Grandma spent the night with my sister until my Mom was discharged. It was a crazy time!

I was born at home and was the firstborn. No one knew that I was a frank breech until I was crowning when someone said "Oh my god she has a crack in her head!". The midwife called the Dr to the house to help deliver me and I passed meconium before I was born and then took a little longer than normal to take my first breath. But, my Mom still delivered me naturally, at home. A pretty terrifying first birth in my opinion and she went on to have 4 more!

My mom was TTC, and she missed her period, and felt off, but she kept getting negatives in the urine pregnancy tests (at the doctor's office). She requested a pregnancy blood test, but the doctor refused, so she found a new doctor. She was pregnant, and already in her second trimester.

I was born a 23 days early. My parents went out for pizza. That night, my mom's water broke. She wanted to take a shower, fix up, and put on a dress, because first labors are supposed to take a long time. When she got to the hospital, they didn't believe she was far into labor, until she said she felt like she had to push. I was the first born, and labor was 3.5 hours from start to finish. I was a little over five pounds, and had to stay in the hospital for a little while.

I know the gist of it, thought there wasn't much to tell. My older sister was born in 1.5 hrs, so she knew she had to rush to the hospital as soon as she went into labor. Her water broke in the early morning hours, they rushed to the hospital, and I was there in less than 2 hrs. Super fast, and she had them do an episiotomy since she knew she'd likely rip from it being so quick.

Mum's told me the gist of it; 36 hours of labour then emergency c-section because I got stuck and my heart rate had dropped. She likes to tell me how after they got me out she could hear the nurses counting and she was SO happy that I had 10 fingers and 10 toes... They were counting the instruments and sponges. She was pretty drugged, lol.

I know bits and pieces. Apparently, my mom's water broke and she jumped out of bed like a shot. Neither of them remember cleaning it up. They went to the hospital and eventually my mom wanted the nitrous gas, which didn't work. My mom pushed the mask so hard on her nose that it left a mark. They found out the next day that the tank was empty and the night shift didn't have keys to the storage room (?!?!?). My mom was ready to push by morning, but they told her to wait because the doctor wasn't there yet (my father says he was taking his sweet time getting his morning coffee, etc). Anyways, my mom had to wait so long that she lost the urge to push. The doctor was about to use forcepts and my mom said "nooooooooo" and pushed me out with a mighty push.

I was the 3rd of 4 and my mom had to be induced with all of us. I was 2 weeks late. However, from the start of the induction to my being born took 45 minutes. I shot out! But the hospital didn't believe my mom when she said that she had hemorrhaged with her first two births so she bled a lot and almost died. Thankfully, she did not.

I know most of it:
I was a little overdue and that my mum still drove to my dad's place while having contractions. She then watched TV with dad's family for a while and at midnight my grand-father sent my dad and mum to the hospital "because otherwise that baby is born here". Well my dad was complaining about being too tired (seriously dad?!) but they still went. It didn't get better for my mum though; first they forced her to have an enema (apparently it was standard procedure) and the dr. didn't believe that the midwife was right that I was ready to be delivered (and he needed to be present because it was necessary I'd be vacuumed out because my mum had had detached cornea - so no pushing). I was born at 1:42am - and I am a firstborn. Crazy fast...

I was 18 days overdue, my dad worked night shifts, and my mom went into labor in the morning. She didn't want to wake him up, so she labored alone most of the day (my older brothers were at my uncle's). She finally woke him up when her contractions were 2 minutes apart, and then they had to drive clear across town during downtown rush hour. My dad says he stayed in the right lane because he was scared he'd have to pull over and deliver me himself on the side of the highway! I was born all of 15 minutes after they got into a room!

My birth story is really bizarre! From conception to birth! It must be how my mum tells it!!

I was conceived in 1980, on a Birds Eye Pea Farm in Norfolk. My dad has been working away on a 6 month summer season on the Island of Jersey (he was a musician - and a writer) but his "digs" (the place he has been staying) - a Chinese restaurant - was closed down because the owner had been caught selling cat (not sure if this it strictly true or if it was just non-compliant with hygiene!!) so my dad came home 2 months early. My mum took a 6 month break from her pill every summer and hadn't gone back on it yet. They went to stay with friends on this farm and while I was being conceived the film "Girl on a Motorbike" was on TV.

Anyway, my mum was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and high blood pressure in pregnancy. Around the same time, my dad was caught for welfare benefit fraud (for his previous script writing) and all their welfare hand outs stopped. They had no money put aside and he had no work at that point so they were destitute. My mum said that all they could afford to eat was cornflakes but they still had lots of cigarettes left that my dad had brought back from Jersey so they smoked 80 a day each. Hmm. Eventually, my mum became so ill, they took her into hospital.

While my mum was in hospital, she made a friend - a black lady called Jackie. Her colour is only significant because of the reason my mum went into labour..... They were in the TV room together and the TV series Roots was on. My mum and Jackie were joking with each other, calling each other outrageous racist words, and my mum laughed so hard her water broke - at 34 weeks! She thought she was peeing herself and then got really scared when it wouldn't stop!!

I was born the following morning, on a Sunday, weighing 5lb 13oz. It wasn't usual to call dads back then apparently, or at least my mum didn't until lunchtime on the Sunday. Her reason for not calling sooner was it was raining and my dad had holes in his shoes. At first, he said he couldn't come because he was cooking a chicken (??) but my aunt took the phone and shouted at him! Strange.

I was in an incubator for a little while and in hospital for a few weeks but was actually really robust. My mum, on the other hand, was so traumatized she refused to have any more children!!
