I feel like a terrible mommy saying this but I really never figured this one out :-( I know her I'm in pain cry of course from her shots but that's about it. Tired versus hungry forget it. My LO is five months.

@travelingbrit: so interesting! I think I remember seeing that episode and completely forgot about it.

DD has some pretty clear cries. I can just feel what is wrong usually. I know her sick cry, her burp cry, her tired cry, and now that I watched that clip again--I'll look out to see if her cries match the baby "words"

I can tell hungry vs diaper vs fussy.... But cant tell anything else.
Have you seen this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv3-74EFtWQ This lady claims you can tell any babies cry but not sure I believe it.

@JessLC: yes! His cries are so district. Even people who don't know him well can tell. Its weird...
His hungry cry is like a sad cry whereas his tired cry is like his psychotic screaming that gets louder and louder until I start rocking him and turn off the lights.
His fussy/irritated cries are like these fake groans and whimpers
and of course pain is just abrupt an scream...this mainly happens when I get him dressed. He hates cold wipes, hates clothing over the head...

My LO is 13 weeks and I'm still trying to figure out her different cries - hunger, discomfort, tired, pain, lonely/bored, etc. Her pain cries sound like a sheep, but I have difficulty distinguishing between her hunger and tired cries.

What do your LO's different cries sound like?
