In my mind how do 4 teachers get 12-16 infant and young toddlers out of the school. They have 2 mobile cribs and they put the infants in one and the younger toddlers in another and push them out. Depending on the emergency they can either take the children into the school yard or across the street and into the church or church yard. I'm not sure what would happen in a real emergency. I know for the elementary school they get transported to another school(s) for pickup.</p> <p>Ironic that you posted this. We had a "fire" experience yesterday too. Our older child who goes to the elementary school for Pre-K got curious about "that red thing on the wall". She removed the plastic covering which sounds an internal alarm. I had not previously considered explaining what fire alarms are and how they work. We not only have an outside evacuation and a nearby facility evacuation point but we live by a nuclear plant so we also have one about 20 miles away. When they have a fire drill at school, it takes several days to convince him that there won't be another one. We always remind him that it's to make sure he and his friends and his teachers are safe. California had earthquake drills, Virginia does tornado drills. Now all do intruder drills, which is so sad. At the height of intruder fear, they had an actual SWAT team sweep our rooms at one school. The entire preschool was walked about 1/4 mile away to an open area and parents were called. It was mostly well done (except for the friends ex in another state getting called first).</p> <p>At their new school they practice a fire drill every month. They just had a drill Thursday. My son asked where his baby was and made sure she came out with him.</p> <p>We also had been scheduled for a larger drill for the entire campus. That brought up many discussions. The scenario they hoped was practiced was a lockdown. We also discussed what would happen if a full campus evacuation was ordered (wild fire, earthquake, etc). How scary! There was a potential gas leak a few weeks ago and the firemen came to the school. There was a big fire at a home next door to LO's school and her entire school had to be evacuated. I thank her teacher for being so calm when she called me. The school evacuated to a playground nearby. There were still numerous fire trucks outside of the school by the time I picked her up and I saw photos of the fire once we got home and it really scared me how close it was. There will most likely be no school tomorrow because of the smoke (and possible water damage/flooding to the school's playground from the fire hoses).</p> <p>LO's school has fire drills and I'm thankful for that.</p> <p>Do you know what your LO's school has in place in case of fire or some other threat that would cause them to evacuate? Do they do fire drills at the school/daycare? </p>
