If I could get away early once in a while and do errands first I would. It is so much faster to do those things on your own.

A couple weeks ago I booked a Friday off and took DS to daycare so I could do a bunch of errands and a couple things around the house.

I do sometimes. DD isn't in the mood after daycare to go anywhere, so if I really need to do something, it's best to do it before I pick her up.

No, but I usually leave for work before she's awake so I'm always excited to pick her up.

Sometimes I come home before I pick them up just to do laundry or chores, other times run errands. The way I see it, I'm spending time getting stuff done so I can spend more quality time with them, even if it means an extra hour at daycare.

This isn't quite the same but sometimes I stay up to an hour late at work to finish things up, because I know my husband is watching him.... I still feel guilty, though, every moment after "contract time" because I could be home instead.

@bluestriped bee: I do something similar before I pick up LO. A grocery store and dry cleaners are in the same plaza as the daycare, but not close enough to pick up LO and walk to the places. I stop there since leaving LO in the car is not safe or taking him in and out of the car is a hassle.

I do this often too. My pickup time varies depending on whether or not I have an errand to run, but my kid loves his daycare and his outdoor or indoor playspace time at the end of the day is at 4:00, so he likes it if I come between 4:30-5 so he can play a little more first. Works for me!

I used to feel guilty, but don't anymore. He cries if I come too early and he misses out on the playspace lol.

I do this all the time. So much easier than trying to do errands with kiddos in tow.

I do all the time! He's usually pretty cranky after daycare because he doesn't nap well there (our only gripe) so I know he would be a hot mess if I tried to make any stops. I don't feel tooooo guilty.

I wouldn't feel guilty. It's easier to get errands and chores done without the kids and if they wanted to close early because of the holiday, they could have adjusted their hours. Like you said you're paying for the service. They'll appreciate the gift.

My normal pickup time to get the kids is 6pm.

Is it weird to feel guilty that I left work at 4:30p to run some errands before coming back to work to get them at 6?

I feel a little guilty but at the same time I'm paying for the daycare whether they stay 8 or 9 hours. Might as well take advantage of the free time (baby-free), right?

Oh, it's on-site work daycare. I do morning drop off and evening pick up every day.

Maybe I could have been nice and let my kid's teacher go home early before the holidays. I didn't. (My kids weren't the only ones there that late.) When we take this kids out of daycare in 2 weeks (switching to an au pair), I do plan on getting a gift for all the teachers that watched them during our stay at this daycare.

I do appreciate the daycare and the teachers there.
