We have a glass butter dish that we leave out on the counter. It holds a stick at a time and we've never had butter go bad.

I leave it out, but only a 1/4 cup or so, the rest is in the fridge. Just don't leave out more than you can eat before it goes bad!

when we're on a buttered bread kick, we'll leave out a stick of a butter in a covered wooden butter dish. it stays good for at least 2 or 3 weeks, depending on ambient temperature. readily soft butter is so much nicer for spreading. we keep the rest of the butter in the fridge for cooking and storage.

No, we don't. We usually have a tub of spreadable margarine so we don't need to leave butter out.

I do like those butter crocks. Maybe I'll get one some day.

We primarily keep it in the fridge, but will put half a stick or so in a covered butter dish on the counter. It makes life so much easier when all you want is to butter a slice of toast without being aggravated. :)

in the fridge. we rarely use it except when cooking/baking so it doesn't matter if it's hard. (also, we don't have a toaster or toaster oven; maybe if we did we would use it! ahh the annoyances of living in an nyc apt with limited countertop space...)

We leave one stick out in a covered butter dish. It would take quite a while to go bad, and it would be very obvious if it was rancid (it would smell and taste terrible), so I don't worry about it.

Believe it or not but we never regularly have butter in the house or a butter substitute! If we did it would be in the fridge.

Onetime DH wanted boxed mac and cheese that requires butter and we had to use yogurt lol since we forgot we don't have butter.

I put a half a brick out and the rest in the fridge. Sometimes it does go bad, but what is nice is that it goes rancid and it's very easy to tell. You will never accidentally eat bad butter. Plus, it takes weeks.

Fridge, definitely, but my grandparents would leave the butter out in a covered butter dish. I don't know if it went bad, because there were too many people around and eating for any butter to remain there for very long.

I looove butter! I leave it in the fridge, and then cut a few thin slices before I toast my bread. Within 5-7 min, the butter is soft enough to spread!
