If she's in her bedroom then I can leave her for a bit to do something else but will always check in. If she's in the family room, she'll play by herself but I'll be in the room with her. There are too many things for her to climb into and cause trouble.

I tried for a long time, but my son would follow me everywhere. He still does, but at 2.5 years old, he's starting to like being on his own.

@Mrs. Jacks: You know I feel like I brought this on myself. :) For so long I thought she was so well-behaved, we would never hit that "mischeviousness" parents always complain about, etc... And then about 3 months ago that all changed. She's so smart and the things she comes up with are pretty creative, but seriously, how did she learn how to log onto Netflix?!

I do and I don't b/c his big brother can't always be trusted to play nicely or gently. He's a great big brother and tells me when his little brother gets into things he's not suppose to. It's hard to separate out toys when you have kids three years apart. I do miss things... or those little things gets puts back into the mix without my knowing!

@Weagle: Ugh, not mine. Typically, being quiet means DD has gotten into sometjing she isn't supposed to be doing, and she's teaching her brother how to eat pennies/log onto Netflix (I didn't even know she knew how to do this until yesterday!)/take all of his clothes off/"wash" his stuffed animals in the sink/etc...

@Mrs. Jacks: Haha, yes, sometimes my DD is a little over enthusiastic with her brother. :)

Heck yeah. My baby is 20 months now, and the house is totally babyproofed (the parts to which she has access). So she just gets to do her thing. Most days when we're home I'll alternate between sitting around on my laptop when she wants to play alone and hanging with her when she wants my company.

I encourage her to go play in her room or the play room by herself when she will. Sometimes I have to go sit in there with her but if shes in a good mood she will play alone and we let her.

She really goes where she wants in the house and we don't follow her. If she's hungry, she just wonders into the pantry and gets snacks from her shelf.

We encourage independent play, but we do have to watch out for the way big sister interacts with little sister. After 3 years of hanging out with mostly boys, she can be a bit rough!

@Honeybee: The quiet moments always get me too. Then I check on her, and she's usually just sitting nicely reading a book... And I ruin it! :)

I pretty much just stay on the floor as them, and as long as I can hear them, I don't worry. It's the quiet moments that make me worried, lol.

She likes to climb on things and get into trouble, so I always watch her. If the door is open and I can see her, I'll let her stay in there alone though.

I mean, in a room alone. I don't follow LO around anymore. The rooms I don't want her in are blocked off, and I just listen out for sounds of mischief. Of course, I still check in often.
