Oranges sometimes irritate his skin, but he isn't allergic.

I would be very careful about trying to desensitize a kid on your own. We also can become "sensitized" to allergens, where early exposures don't cause a reaction, but repeated exposures cause worse and worse reactions.

No. DD had horrible allergies brought on by citrus, eggs and tomatoes. We cut it out for a couple months and have started to reintroduce after she turned 1. She seems to have outgrown the intolerances now, but when she was actively reacting it seemed cruel to purposely give her trigger foods. Her rash was itchy tho and made her miserable.

No. LO gets a bad rash from eggs and with each exposure, the rash is worse. I don't think it is worth the risk.

I would discuss repeated exposure with the allergist. Repeated exposure could help desensitize but I would also be concerned that it could make it worse - severe allergic reactions typically don't happen on first or second exposure.

Eggs and shellfish (and nuts) wouldn't be things I would mess around with without talking to the allergist.

i do. she is sensitive to the acid in fruit so sometime she gets a rash or hives on her face after she eats them. i do too. i think she will either grow out of the allergy or it'll continue to be very mild. if it were a serious reaction, then i probably wouldn't.

anecdotally, my nephew was allergic to eggs when he was around that age, and he grew out of it.

Yes, I do. He grew out of the strawberries rash, but he still gets it (mildly) with eggplant. They were never serious rashes, though.

My LO was getting a rash on her face from strawberries around 13 months. I held off for awhile (6 months maybe), then gradually tried again, and she was and is still fine after eating reasonable quantities.

My LO doesn't seem to have reactions to any food yet but the LO I used to nanny would get a pimple like rash on her chin every time she ate mandarin oranges (her favorite food!) & her parents (& I) still fed them to her, just a little less often.

I do if there is just a mild rash. I believe that continued exposures to the foods will help build up a tolerance.

I sure do! S reacted to eggs with a rash around the mouth, we have a family history of anaphylaxis to eggs so I continued exposure ... Within 6 months of daily exposure he no longer reacts at all! That being said, I am quite comfortable with emergency allergic reaction care if it came down to it.

Both my kids have that reaction from spinach and sometimes squash, I continue to give it I them. The 2 year old pretty much grew out of it, don't know if it's from continues exposure or simply because he is older. The 7 month old has only had it a handful of times but unless a more serious reaction occurs, I won't stop her from eating it.

If your LO gets skin reactions to foods do you still allow them to eat the food?

LO gets rashes on her chin from eggs, avocado, and as of tonight it seems shrimp too. We saw an allergist at 8 months and she said LO was allergic to eggs. Her new pediatrician says she's sensitive but that it's totally OK to feed her foods that give her a rash. I did not get that message from the allergist. I'm really uncomfortable intentionally giving my kid something that turns part of them bright red.
