@FriedBabyMama: my LO has slept thru since 5 months but that led to wake ups before 6 am! Sometimes early bedtimes can bite you in the butt but it's way better than an overtired baby! These past few days he is letting me nurse him at 6am after a 6:30 bedtime and sleeping till 7 or 8!

@winniebee: Maybe your DH can take over morning duties if your lo needs to go to bed earlier? My DH gets LO up every morning and I get an extra hour or so in bed :).

@WinnieBee: I hear ya! My husband also gets home later, but he tries to get his quality time in with the baby in the morning before work. Good luck tonight!

@FriedBabyMama: I def see the benefits! But my husband doesn't usually get home until 7 and I worry he will never see him! But I think a 730 bedtime is doable and suppose there is compromise. Tonight put him down at 815 and hoping for the best!

@SammyFab: me too! I had to fight mine down for a nap at 3:30 today and he only slept for about 25 mins. I can't imagine keeping him up much past 6:30 anymore.... looking forward to when he'll consistently sleep all the way through...

@FriedBabyMama: I am totally with you on the early bedtime...but mainly because my LO will not let me put him down for a nap after 4pm! We started putting our LO to bed before 7pm at 10 weeks and we have gone as early as 5:30. He is now 6 months and bedtime is regularly between 6 and 7. Granted, he wakes up between 6 and 7 (or earlier!) but he gets 11-12 hours at night which is nice.

@WinnieBee: Surprisingly, it's not that awful because....you get a baby free evening to actually catch up on life a bit - cooking real meals again, cleaning a litle, watching garbage tv, etc :)

@WinnieBee: I've been reading Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child - which will make you crazy...BUT he suggests moving up bedtime really early, and I've been putting my son down CRAZY early, and it's really helped. Literally at 5:45 a few times.... On the other hand, he's not a huge fan of the moby, but if I could keep him happy in there and stay up a bit, that would be nice - would maybe lead to a later wake up... ?

@FriedBabyMama: Thanks! I'm worried about moving his bedtime up too early, too! He just went down for a little snooze at 5:30 - I really feel like that's too early, no? Tonight, he will probably be ready for bed by 7:30 and I'll oblige....

Last night rather than letting him catnap, I put him in his moby for a bit and he was happy. Started bedtime routine at 7:30 and he was asleep by 8....but then woke at 8:45, 9, and 9:30 for more milk and soothing. Ugh.

mine is 3 months and I try to avoid the evening cat nap and just put him down for the night....he's been going to bed really early (like 6 pm early) and sleeping til nearly 6 am starting this week, sometimes with one feed around 1 or 2 am. from what I've read, an early bed time can be more helpful than the late nap, and while i was scared to try at first, it has been great!

Under the age of 6 months yes, I'd let my son sleep when he showed his cues. There was no such thing as his naps cutting into his nightime sleep because he slept like such crap in the night anyway, lol.

My LO is 9 weeks old and usually needs a cat nap in the evening around 7 or so for 15 minutes - sometimes in the swing or in our arms. We start a bedtime routine around 8:15ish so he's usually in his crib for the night by 9pm and then he sleeps until 3am, nurses, and then goes back down until 7am. We tried moving his bedtime up to 8 a few nights and it backfired - he would wake up at 11pm to eat, then again around 2am and then again at 6am. With him going to sleep later at 9, at least I get more than a few hours of continued sleep! I feel like in the next month or so, he may move his bedtime up earlier on his own but he's just not ready yet.

Every baby is different I guess! Tonight he seemed really tired by 8 and surprisingly took a bottle then and was in bed by 845. And he took a 2.5 hour nap from 315-545 today too. Who knows!

My 4.5 month old sleeps around 10:30pm (yeah, late!) and the latest I will let him nap is 7pm and he'll usually nap for an hour tops. But right now he's been up for 3 hours and isn't tired. Probably due to the fact that he took a 4:45 (!!!!) nap this afternoon. Yikes.

Yes. Lo goes to bed at 7:15 every night and sleeps till 6:00 on the dot. But he needs a quick nap somewhere between 5 and 6 every night. Doesn't seem to affect his night time sleep, so I am not going to try and cut it out. He is 12 weeks.

My son has catnapped around 6 pm since he was like 2 weeks old. There has yet to be a way to stop it, and he goes down between 8-8:30. We've tried moving his bedtime earlier, but he wakes up after 1/2 hour. I just say its the way he is.

@BeachMama: Erratic is an understatement! All of the women on the May babies thread have been complaining about growth spurts and regression. My son had a CRAZY bad week of sleep between 12-13 weeks and has since smoothed out. Even slept 9:30-6:30 one night. But usually does a 6 hour stretch then 3 hours then 2 or something.

There was a little while where she needed a cat nap from 530-600. Then we bathed around 6:30/640 and she was in bed by 8.

But thats all gone to the birds.....

Evelyn is 3 months and usually goes to bed around 8:30 or 9, but only sleeps 5-6 hours before waking for a feed, then about every 2-3 hours after that till about 7ish. She gets pretty crabby towards the end of the day so lately I've been letting her nap around 7pm. It doesn't seem to affect her sleep, although her sleep has been really erratic lately..

We just started moving DS (3 months) towards a bedtime routine. It seems that his emerging bedtime is 9 p.m. and he usually sleeps until 8 a.m. with one nightime feed. He gets kind of nasty in the evening if he doesn't have a catnap but I wonder if it affects his nighttime sleep. Usually the catnap is from 7-7:30 or so. Tonight 7:25-7:40. We achieve the catnap either by putting him in his swing unswaddled (or one arm out...he bonks himself after a bit and wakes up). Or, by an evening stroll.

I wonder if his bedtime should be earlier....but he's not the type of baby that will take milk unless he is hungry and his last feeding was 5:45...meaning he wouldn't be ready for another meal until 8 or so.

Anyone else have a baby on this schedule? Tips on if I should just move the bedtime up altogether?
