@Mrs. Bee: Yeah I worry about strangulation all the time! I'm always next to her when she plays with them. -.- I swear. She puts the ends of the cord into her mouth.. CHoking hazard. :P I can't wait til she stops putting everything in her mouth.

you should be careful with the blind cords. it's one of the most common causes of strangulation.

@andrea: You're right though. I'm gonna try to teach my LO not to jump on couches. Never really thought about it before but totally makes sense!

@banana: exactly. like my friend was OK with it at her house but then her son started having play dates as he grew older and she ran into this problem. he didn't know any better of course. i don't think my friend was at the play date to stop him. his friend's mom complained to her afterwards. yikes.

@andrea: A friend of mine had her 2 kids over our house and they were totally jumping on our couch and love seat. We didn't say anything at first and just smiled but after around 10 minutes, I just told her that maybe they shouldn't do that cause they can get hurt. She says to me "Oh, that's ok. They do it all the time at home. They're just having fun." I don't think it dawned on her that some people might find it rude.

Our LO is allowed on the couch. But, just like his dad, he already has this weird fear of heights so he's suuuuuper careful when he climbs onto things. I bought him a step stool (and it's like 3 inches off the ground) and he made me hold his hold while he got off and on. So I'm not that worried about him getting hurt from climbing on/off the couch. But with that said, I'll have to monitor him because he IS a toddler and can change at any given moment!

Our LO is on the couch. It would be confusing to say it is off limits if DH and I are still sitting on it. I would say don't let your kids jump up and down on it. My friend started to let her son do that and it has proven to be a very hard habit to break. And he goes to other people's houses and jumps on their couches, too. <--- not appreciated.

@chopsuey119: Yah we also constantly worried his hand would get crushed under there, or the cat would get crushed too.

@mrbee: OMG that is a brilliant idea!! Our "legs" are only 1.5 inches high, but I HATE all the dust bunnies that collect under the couch. :D

We ended up taking off the couch legs (they broke) and that put the couch much closer to the ground. Charlie loves it! And we feel much safer about letting him on there.

The problem is that he uses it as a springboard to try and climb the bookcases right behind the couch. Yikes!

Our LO learned to climb up on the couch a week or so ago. Man. She loves grabbing the blinds and blind strings (whatever they're called).

I kinda wanna keep the couch off limits, but doesn't seem fair since DH and I are always sitting on it. :P

Guess I just need to stay close and keep an eye on her.

(we have a large sectional so I don't worry too much about her falling off).
