It's just... let's be honest here... if I'm going to a hotel as a destination I want hotel sex. You didn't threadjack... I asked about it. That sounds awful. I've had bad experiences at hotels too, so it's so hard to gauge. My parents are people people, so I don't think they'd generally mind other people hanging around... I'm not sure they'd want to see an old woman naked though. :silly: @mrsjazz: HA! We felt like we couldn't have sex, haha. It's too intimate. I need the anonymity of hotels. And we are not really people people! The ones we've stayed at are really just like smaller, nicer hotels. No small talk with others. HUGE beautiful bathrooms/suites. Concierge service. I say go for it! FWIW, we spent our honeymoon in a B&B and there was plenty of privacy. I hate feeling like I have to be ultra polite when it comes to a service I'm actually paying for. Plus, I hate small talk :happy: Correction, I hate being in a situation when I'm pressured to small talk. But if it's a large B&B (and not so intimate), then I'm all for it! It depends on your parents' comfort level and routine. My parents wouldn't do so well, because most B&B's only have semi-private bathrooms, and my mom doesn't like anyone to see her until she is completely made up in the morning. It's never bothered me before, and some have private baths. I did have a weird experience from a snooty lady in Ireland though. I was in my early 20s at the time, traveling on my own, and stayed exclusively in B&Bs on that trip, which enabled me to meet lots of locals - one older B&B owner invited me out with her hiking group one Sunday afternoon. It was amazing! But back to the snooty lady. I had worn my pjs, robe and slippers down to breakfast because I woke up late. She informed me that "here, we dress for breakfast!" and made me march back upstairs to change. I was the only guest, and had planned on staying another night, but checked out right after eating. Not sure who I was offending. I was just trying not to be late! But it helps if there's a good personality fit (you and the owners) and I like to know what I'm getting into (accommodations, food, etc). Some of my favorite B&B experiences were when DH and I were in Ireland. I feel like I'm a guest in someone's home, and I need to be on my polite, guest behavior. They're often smaller spaces, so sound can be an issue. I feel like I have to compliment the owner on the food, etc. It's just a different experience all around.....I would definitely still go check one out, but I haven't been totally won over! loki on "Do you like B&B's?" https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/do-you-like-bampbs#post-1947871 Mon, 17 Nov 2014 15:06:13 +0000 loki 1947871@https://boards.hellobee.com/ @IRunForFun: @photojane: it was so bad. i might type a novel. we stayed there with two other couples because we were in a small quebec town for a wedding and B&Bs were the only accomodations. so we took up 3 out of 5 of the rooms. but the owners were VERY intrusive and would constantly just be around... we tried to play cards one night and we weren't rowdy at all (two of us were pregnant) but it felt like we were getting in trouble! the first night we wanted to go out for dinner in town and the owners waited up for us to get home, even though we had keys. it was this ooooold house and the floors were soooo creaky and awful, we just felt so uncomfortable the whole time. one of the other guests was this bizarre woman who was always around us. we would move to couches to chat and she would sit in a chair so awkwardly beside us reading. we would move to the dining room and she would follow. it was seriously weird. the first night we went to bed and at about 530 am i hear an alarm going off. i got up because i thought maybe it was downstairs... it was in this weird woman's room. it woke EVERY OTHER PERSON in the B&B up... but was somehow not waking this woman up. Our friends had a room that shared a bathroom with her and she would leave her dentures on the sink and her towels on the floor. and she had left the door to the bathroom open so my friend peeked in and this woman's alarm was clearly going off at full volume, right beside her head, all her lights were on and she was passed out. we legit thought she was dead. so after about an hour of it going off, we started pounding on the door and asking her to turn it off. no luck. another hour goes by so we had to go into the other part of the house and wake up the owners because we were genuinely concerned for her well being... the owner came up and just barged into her room and took the alarm. we were standing in the hall and saw her completely naked. it was pretty hysterical but also traumatic haha. anyways her presence didn't affect our stay but it definitely made me realize that that setting is NOT for me. i like a bit more anonymity and i hated feeling like we were naughty teenagers reporting to our parents the entire time. ok that was insanely long, i'm so sorry for threadjacking haha. snowjewelz on "Do you like B&B's?" https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/do-you-like-bampbs#post-1947870 Mon, 17 Nov 2014 15:05:42 +0000 snowjewelz 1947870@https://boards.hellobee.com/ I don't think I've actually stayed in one, but I've always liked the idea of it! babynumber1 on "Do you like B&B's?" https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/do-you-like-bampbs#post-1947858 Mon, 17 Nov 2014 15:01:33 +0000 babynumber1 1947858@https://boards.hellobee.com/ We have been to one, and it was an AWFUL experience. Cozy and romantic, great breakfasts and afternoon tea! DH and I aren't huge on small talk with strangers but we find that b&bs work for both types. Most we've stayed at, the caretaker lives in a guest house on the property so you don't even have to talk to anyone coming in and out and sometimes you can help yourself at a fridge for guests. Hubs and I are terrible at small talk/interacting with strangers, and my husband is a VERY picky eater. He won't eat typical breakfast foods (and especially not pastries) so we'd wind up going out to breakfast anyways. While I liked the home cooked breakfast and the coziness of it, I don't think its for me. I'm generally very quiet and I don't like to make small talk. Maybe other B&Bs are different but when we were back at the inn the owners were there with us relaxing in the living room. My mother on the other hand will talk to everyone so she loves them. For me, I think it comes down to what kind of person someone is and if they are comfortable making small talk with people they don't know.
