@owlmom: oh that's not as bad as I thought it would be. I think regular pickup trucks are that low. I was expecting single digits. Haha.

I can't handle being in a car for more than 6 hours (total)! Including rests and etc. :) The ideal road trip would be no more than 2 hours

I absolutely hate long road trips unless we stop often and sight-see along the way, but still I'd rather avoid them.

When I was young, my parents attempted a long drive from Florida to California - in a moving truck. I'm been traumatized ever since.

@owlmom: Oh, cool. I hope in a couple years, we can upgrade to an RV. It would be awesome! Maybe by the time I buy, there will be one that is better on gas. What's your MPG on your RV? (Or maybe I don't want to know.)

I love long road trips, and DH does too. We're also avid campers, so a couple years ago we decided to invest in an RV. We absolutely love it for a lot of the reasons you think you would like a trailer. I've never regretted the purchase. We have 2 big dogs, and it makes traveling with them so much easier. We've saved a ton on hotels, but we've made up for it in increased gas purchases :P LO will be 7 months this summer when we take her on her first big trip in the RV - I can't wait!

I like long road trips. I used to hate it because solo driving makes me tired but now that my husband drives most of the way, it's great. He loves long road trips.

I'm trying to convince him to let us buy a teardrop trailer for our road trips. We've driven 14 hours to get to San Francisco. We've driven 8 hours south to southern Oregon for a weekend trip (16 hours of driving in one weekend!). Yeah, my car was racking up a lot of miles for a while there.

We are planning a trip out to Montana, which is 14+ hrs away from us. We also are planning a 2 week long road trip to WY, CO, NM, AZ and CA.

You have to look up tear drop trailers, like the T@B or the Little Guy. Or this one: http://theteardroptrailer.blogspot.com/2008/11/tour.html It's a mini sleeping trailer and it's so cute! Plus, it's light enough that my accord can pull it. It's perfect for us because we are always moving. We can just pull over at a truck stop or a campsite and sleep. I think it's an investment because we plan to drive across the country. Also, I hear they are pretty rare and some consider them a collectible. It can save us money in hotels. Plus, when we take our dog on road trips, the hotels charge a $50 pet fee on top of the nightly rate.

Anyway, do you like road trips? What about long ones?

I'm sure once we have kids, the road trips will probably decrease.
