Overall, yes, but it really depends on the book, how many times I've read it already, and how willing E is to actually let me read it (sometimes he just wants to flip through pages, or gets stuck on one page....that frustrates me).

Hate it! Ha. I have no shame. I do it anyway, of course, since it is so important. I find it annoying to be constantly distracted and interrupted. The only time we read is right before bed since we aren't together any other time of the day and by that point I am exhausted and anxious to relax after our usual long days. We usually read one book of her choosing and then the exact same book every night as part of our bedtime ritual.

I do like reading chapter books out loud to DH, so maybe once she is older this will become more enjoyable for me.

@mrbee: I think you've mentioned that she's into princesses before, are the boring/badly written ones the princess books? My LO is a boy, but we just started George MacDonald's The Princess and the Goblin, which features a princess and good writing/storytelling. We picked it up on the recommendations of Lewis and Chesterton, so I figured it would be! ;)

Graphic novels have been a big hit with my son too, but he loves Tintin, and I find the stories to be a tad too "boy" (for lack of a better word...) for me. Fortunately, the format lends itself to me handing them to him and telling him to "read" them himself, which he happily does!

I'm a teacher so I generally love reading aloud to my kids (my own daughter and my students). But my daughter is 14 months and isn't always good at sitting through the whole story, but j can't wait until she can. I also really hope that someday she and I can read Harry Potter together!

Right now it is painful. LO does not want me to read to her. So if I try to hold her and do it she either melts off my lap and runs away, head butts me in the chin, or whines until I set her down. Once she's off my lap she tries to pry the book out of my hands and eat it. She's basically a tiny goat.

Depends on the books! There are some books I HATE reading and try to hide haha. One of them is the Gorilla zoo book where he escapes when the zookeeper is closing up, and lets all the animals out. She loves that one but there are so few words it's hard to engage her! I love the mouse, the red ripe strawberry and the big hungry bear... and also I love My Mom Loves Me... I love most llama llama books but they really phoned it in on Llama Llama Zippity Zoom and I hate reading that one too!

I get bored by toddler books. DD makes me read "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" a dozen times a day. I can't wait for fairy tails.

@honeybear: We go through a lot of books! Sometimes I won't like a book but my daughter will love it - so I just try to slog through.

Lately we've been reading graphic novels, and it's been a lot easier for me! I think I am just easily bored.

Love it!

Why are you reading boring books? I'm candid with LO if we get into a book and find that it's lousy. We quit and find something else. I tell him why I think it's not very good, too. No need to waste our time with drivel.

it definitely depends on the book for me and my mood! sometimes i pick one up and i'm like, oh crud, there are way more words in here than i signed up for!

i think it will be easier when she can interact with the book/story a bit more!

Short version: I loved reading picture books to the kids, but don't love reading chapter books (especially if they're badly written!).

Longer version: I love reading simple and short books to the kids, and for years that's all we read. But lately I've found that reading long books to the kids can be really boring for me, mostly because a lot of them are badly written! And if the book is really well written, I want to stop reading out loud and just read ahead on my own. #worstdadever

Basically I'm a terrible reader of chapter books. Mrs. Bee is so much better at reading long boring chapter books to the kids! I can only do a few chapters at a time, and then I have to take a break. I've been trying to force it though, because I know how important reading is for the kids.
