I went through phases of liking different cuisines, right now I am loving sushi, sashimi, and cooked rolls too. One thing is for sure and it's that I am a foodie and will try anything at least once. I grew up around cousins and extended relatives near by (no siblings) so our meals were mostly homemade Vietnamese cuisine cooked with love and long hours enjoyed with relatives many evenings. Sadly, the recipes were all through word of mouth, memorization, nothing written, and definitely without precise measuring.

I am trying to learn how to cook the food from childhood but it's so labor intensive and it's hard to replicate without the exact recipe. I do tweak things and take shortcuts so it's not as good as I remember but good enough. My DH's favorite is Vietnamese food. However, our DD clearly loves Italian food. She loves pastas, spaghetti and meatballs especially but I try to feed her whatever we eat.

As someone with a mostly Anglo-Irish background, I do enjoy some of those traditional foods, usually in winter- there's something wonderful about shepherd's pie on a snowy day!

DH is Vietnamese, and we eat Vietnamese food often, although I'm not terribly proficient in most recipes. My MIL specializes in making fabulous banh xeo (crepes) and bun bo Hue (lemongrass soup), which are absolutely amazing. I really need to get her to write down how she makes them so I can at least know how they're made!

We want to introduce LO to Vietnamese food at an early age, and we really hope that she loves it as much as we do!

I LOVE Caribean food. My biggest regret is not learning how to cook some of my favorite dishes from my mother. I love rice and peas, curry chicken, curry goat (don't knock it until you've tried it) and some of the recipes that are specifically local to my island.

I love Korean food , and I am jealous of those of you who got it homemade growing up.

I'm half french, half english and I just love the food of both countries especially brittany which is the region my family is from. English food gets a bad name but I think that is because it has become associated with the convenience food and substitutes people came to rely on during the war. Proper english food is great in winter!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Depending on what it is and how much I make of it but usually not really. I think some things cooked the old fashioned way take longer because meat is involved. My baked macaroni and cheese takes about an hour and a half but it's not very healthy :P

@RubyCali: Yessss, Greek food. I love all of it. Our towns annual Greek Festival is coming up and I can't wait to pig out.

We don't cook a lot of the traditional dishes at home, but we both love the flavors of Greek food. So we pretty much season everything with basil, oregano, lemon and olive oil. Plus I always have a tub of feta cheese in the fridge.

Jewish food is mostly meat or starches and I'm vegetarian so that leaves starch-- knishes, latkes, kugels. Not my favorite since that doesn't make a balanced meal! I do love latkes but they're a pain because then your home smells like oil for days, lol. My parents grew up in Texas though and I could eat tex-mex every day!

I generally loved all of the Swedish and Norwegian foods I had growing up, although I was never really a fan of lutefisk. :silly:

Since my family is all on the West coast and I don't see them frequently, I don't have the Scandinavian cooking that I had when I was little, but I do find myself gravitating towards certain spices that are common in Scandinavian foods when I cook, such as dill and cardamom.

ETA: and now I want to go buy some cookbooks and start making more traditional Scandinavian dishes  I could really go for some krumkake right now!

I ate Korean food everyday growing up and could not imagine living without it. Then I went to college and did fine away from Korean food but would go out for Korean food at least 1-2 times a week or go to my parents for a home cooked meal on the weekend. Slowly I went longer and longer without Korean food when I went to law school and started working. Then I got married and DH does not love Korean food or even really like it that much. And when I got pregnant it was one of my biggest aversions :( . Now I hardly ever eat Korean food and rarely crave it. I want LO to love Korean food but she only likes the mild soups, rice, dried seaweed, dried squid, and bean sprouts. She is sensitive to spicy and salty foods so she's not crazy about it like some kids are. I'm going to keep exposing her though bc I want her to love it like I did growing up
