I like that I've been involved in lots of big and small projects that are iconic parts of NYC now. I don't like that my work, for a long time, was mostly helping build houses for very rich people. I'd rather put my effort into other things. Today I was around a severely depressed patient and it really wears you down!<br /> The time management is tricky cause I have to drive between homes. There's little work life balance because 50% of our job is on the computer so you bring work home with you and there's always so much charting/care coordination/ messages/emails/ etc to do at the end of the day.<br /> I like the actual nursing aspect- being with patients, doing skills, teaching them to manage their diseases. But all the extra stuff wears me out.<br /> One hand, it's nice being salary and working m-f 8-5. But on the other, there's are least 1-2 days a week I log more like 10-12 hour days. We also have to be on call once a month and work one weekend a month.<br /> Most nurses don't work 50 hours a week like I do. I'm a psychologist working in the field of child maltreatment - so dcpp (child protective services in nj) refers to my agency children to evaluate as a result of their involvement due to physical/sexual abuse and/or neglect. We also provide therapy and train students. I love the opprtunity I have to make a direct impact in the lives of children who have endured so much trauma, but I agree, the heartbreaking situations we see day in and out can be tough at times. I work with amazing people and we practice a lot of self-care! I'm a freelance translator and I love the challenge of figuring out language. I'm always learning about new things since I work in a number of different fields. I also just started doing some pro bono work and I'm really thrilled to be able to give back, even if it's just in a small way. I work in grant administration for a scholarly association--this particular grant provides support to scholars from low and middle-income countries, so it has been interesting interacting with people from all over the world (though the time difference makes things move slower sometimes :silly: ).</p> <p>I previously worked in grant administration in academic health sciences. One of those jobs that I didn't even realize existed until I started doing it!!</p> <p>My current job is only a year contract, so I'm starting to think about what to do next. Hopefully stay employed by the university system where I am currently (benefits are AWESOME). I basically work a program where we are put into place as a last resort for families before children are placed in foster care. i really like my job (very flexible, great coworkers/boss and my own office). i like working with the families but the lack of progess can be frustrating!<br /> I also dislike some of the heartbreaking situations i see, it could wear your down mentally sometimes.</p> <p>what about you? </p>
