We are more conservative. Like @chopsuey119, being debt free is very important for us. So we save up and buy things with cash. It takes a little longer to get the things we want, but it is so worth it to me. My husband bought a motorcycle in January an our next big splurge will be a trip to Thailand in early 2013.

i think we live a good balance, but luckily, it's because my husband makes enough for us to have a good balance. we save a lot, but we also have fun - go out to eat, go on trips, buy what we want/need, etc.

For the most part, conservatively, but we have our once in a while "oh screw it" type moments and just go for it. We splurge on vacations a lot and we think they are well worth it. People always say that you can travel once your kids go to college. Um, I don't think so. I am going to be old. I want to travel when I am young and mobile! The time to enjoy yourself is now -- I don't want to put everything off until later ....

We live very conservatively. We're very practical and only buy things we can afford now (but we do have a mortgage). In the beginning our goal was to pay off our mortgage early, but now the priority has changed a bit after the pregnancy. We save more now, making sure we'll be fine in case something unexpected happens.

But vacations are a priority - we think it's healthy. We wouldn't sacrifice it for say, home renovations (if it's necessary renovations, then that's a different story). But so far it hasn't come to that *knock on wood*.

When I was single, I was YOLO type of person. I had no responsibilities outside of myself and would splurge whenever I had the chance. Moving out to the countryside changed that and then being with DH solidified it. People here live simple lives, and it took a while to adjust, but it's definitely something I want to continue pursuing.

Most of the time, we live conservatively. Now and then we make decisions based on we may not have this opportunity again.

We have a pretty good balance. Hubs and I both earn a salary + commission at our jobs. So our monthly income is never the same. We essentially have a plan in mind to move a certain amount of money every month from our checking account over to our savings account (and we make our IRA and 401K contributions)... once those are met and our bills are met, we buy what we want and don't feel bad about it. We also sometimes dip into the savings account for big purchases, but for the most part if we have a big purchase we make it out of that month's earnings, and cut back on things like going out to dinner, and clothes shopping for that month.

Both. On experiences, we'll splurge, but cars, etc, save. I need a car now and I'm getting the basic in a car- all it needs is to be safe and good on gas. Kind doesn't matter.lol

I think we have a good balance of both!

We always splurge on vacations (except this year since we're TTC) because we love to travel.

We don't splurge on other things, but travel, is a must!

We live pretty conservatively. We do plan about 1 vacation a year, but do it on the cheap. And even though we could go out to dinner more often we cook at home almost every night to save money.

We live pretty freely. But not crazily. The hubs is a banker and is very good with money so he keeps us in check but we believe that we can spend money on things that we want, within reason. We don't penny-pinch too much.

I would say we are somewhere in the middle honestly.

We know just as well if not more than the average person that life is just too dang short to hoard your money. But then again we are frugal by nature. But if we want something we save for it, research till we're blue in the face for the best price and buy it. If we want to go on vacation we save for it.

We have money for a rainy day and we're not frivolous but we also don't believe in not enjoying life.

I think a balance is key. I want to enjoy my money now, but I don’t want to screw over my future self either – so we pick a few select areas to spend more in today that are important to us, and when trip planning just prioritize saving a little more each so we can have that nice vacation, but not dip into savings and not impact our lifestyle too much. I don't think its smart to try to "have it all" for everything in your life, but you don't want to live like a miser and not enjoy what you have, either.

I think saving and planning for your future is really, really important because while it’s relatively easy to make up lost 401k contributions, savings, etc. when you are 30 or 40, it’s nearly impossible to do so when you are 70 or 80. You either plan for it and act on it now, or you hope social security, family, someone else or the lottery protects you later.

We live conservatively, but also splurge on nice things. We're all about living debt free though. We buy everything with cash (debit card) and when we do use our cc, we pay everything off that month.

We definitely live conservatively. My single biggest fear is becoming a burden on my children (even though we don't have kids yet). I made it a priority to save for retirement as soon as I started earning an income. We have built up a nice rainy day fund and additional savings to plan for the "what ifs". We also have life and disability insurance.
I look at my friends who are throwing money around and living beyond their means and sometimes I think "sure, you're having fun now, but what about when you're 70 and you have no savings and your children have to start supporting you" and I actually feel bad for them.
Sure, we may not have a ton of money to throw around, but we live comfortably and I can sleep well at night!

Before we started TTC we were very live in the moment people, taking lots of trips and what not. Now we have really started to become budget people and saving for the little one since I won't have any paid maternity leave. We will still vacation, we set up a fund that takes 40 dollars a week for that, but it won't be as spontaneous as they used to be!

Ummm..... just because today MIGHT be your last, doesn't mean it will be. And if you spend all of your money today and then make it to tomorrow, you're screwed.

We live conservitavely, but we do spend some money on fun things and vacations. We don't take big vacations like we would if we had more money, but it's still fun. And right now my priority is keeping a roof over our head. Literally, we need a new roof.

I think my DH and I are pretty good at managing our money. We budget for everything on a monthly basis and we always save for a rainy day. But I have a few friends who don't live their lives as conservatively as we do. They have a "you only live once" attitude and spend money and try to enjoy their lives NOW. So they have some money saved, but not as much as we do.

So it got me thinking about how we're living our lives. Part of me thinks we should continue living conservatively because you never know what will happen in the future. But part of me also wants to just live a full life right now, because it could all end tomorrow!

What kind of attitude do you have towards money? Conservative or YOLO (you only live once!)?
