@Mrs D: We're in our mostly forever home. Our plan is to fix up and live in our current house until we retire. Then buy some land and build a house.

We moved because of my job but are hoping to move closer back to our families before we have kids. We bought a house that I really like, but DH finds something new that he doesn't like about it daily. He liked it when we bought it, but I think he's having buyer's remorse. We have been there about a year and a half. Plus we want more land and a better garage. This one may actually fall down. Less than 3 years I'd say!

We could stay here forever but I could also be convinced to move to a newer home. Our home is 30+ years old and there are a few things that bug me, though not enough to move immediately.

I don't really believe in forever homes. We LOVE our house, it's a great size and doesn't need any updating and has all our "must-have" list items (well, the reasonable ones, lol) - that said, it will be way too big for just 2 people. After LO's leaves the nest, we've talked about downsizing to several condos so we could travel more.

Also, although our school district is very good, given the chance to move to an equivalent house in the best district in the state (which is close to us), obviously we would hop on that.

Yes I believe we are in our forever home. It's the perfect size and in the perfect location for us. We do plan on renovating it, but know that will take time. A new Roof and new garage are the first items on our list.

Probably - but with an addition being added in a few years. If the addition is going to be crazy expensive we may consider moving but in the same town. But we love our neighborhood and property.

We want to travel once this baby is a bit older (7mos pregnant right now, hah) so we'll stay here for another 2-3 years. Then we'll probably rent out the house while we travel/live elsewhere parts of the year, so that if we do decide to come back to Austin and stay, we have a place to live! The real estate market here is INSANE and does not look like it'll get any better 5+ years out.

I feel like we are about to move into our forever home, but who really knows. We got into a below market rate rent stabilized apartment in NYC. It's the closest to buying something we can manage and it feels so good to know what our costs will be year to year. Picking out paint colors now!

It was the perfect place for us without a baby, but we have different needs/wants with LO now, like other kids in the neighborhood, a pool, better school district, etc. The next home we plan to be in until retirement!

We have been in our townhouse for 4 years and I see us staying another 2-4 years. We love the area but I think once we have two active kids it will be a little crowded. The schools are only so-so here so that's another consideration too.

I voted for moving in 3-5y, but I really have NO idea. We are in what could be our forever home, but my DH is looking to go into sr management &/or start his own business, so we expect we may need to move/have the opportunity to start somewhere else. We are travelers & more adventurous than our life appears to others. :silly:

We bought our forever home 3 weeks ago. We've had some work done and will do some bigger projects over time. It took us a year to find a place, so hard around here so we have no interest in going through that again. Plus we bought more than we needed with the idea of growing into it and raising our family here.

No, we bought this house with the plan to sell in 6-8 years. We love it, but we will outgrow it and need more land. It's a small mortgage for us (once my husband finishes residency), so our plan is to pay it down pretty quickly, and then hopefully build (maybe buy) our forever home.
We are doing some necessary (big) repairs, and considering one investment project (adding a bathroom) while we are here.

Maybe, maybe not. We bought this house last year and love it - it could easily meet our family's needs long term, and the location is fantastic, but DH and I are nomads (me as an expat, him as a former expat returned home after 20+ years) so whether or not we stay long term remains to be seen.

We toy with the idea of either moving to a smaller, idyllic little English village, or moving back to London and living more centrally in the heart of things! Realistically though we won't do either until our LOs are out of school.

While this is our 5 year home, we did buy it with the idea that if for some reason we needed to stay here for a long time we could. And what I mean by that is that its a modestly priced single-story home that's easy to maintain. We bought our house from the original owners who were in their 90s and the house has a step-in shower and a soaking tub in the master bedroom with handrails and all that already in it. It has a hardwired fire/carbon monoxide system with sprinklers, a SUPER loud doorbell, and doorways/hallways that can easily be maneuvered by wheelchair. The only thing we'd need is a simple 5 inch ramp at the front door. While I certainly don't plan on dying in this house, its nice to know its a place where we can live comfortably and even accommodate our parents as we age.

I don't really believe in forever homes. We won't stay where we are now, and are likely moving to a new house next Summer. Eventually, when our kids reach adulthood and move out, we'll probably move into a condo in the middle of the city, because we both prefer city living and won't need the space of a house.

I think so! I would love to stay in this house while our kids grow up. We are thinking of buying a small cabin/cottage on/near a lake upstate in the next 5-10 years and we might retire to that in the future. Or I could be dreaming. But we currently live in a great, family friendly and affordable area.

We're in our "for the foreseeable future" house. I doubt we'll move as long as we stay in this city, but if the opportunity to move closer to family presents itself, we'd probably move. And I really don't think we'll stick around here when we retire. We don't plan to make big changes to the house, but eventually a kitchen and bathroom reno and some cosmetic changes are in order.
