We don't close or lock our door, our cat comes and goes at night from our bed, and that won't change after LO is here. We lock our outer doors and inner house doors (we have enclosed vestibules on both entry doors) - I don't see any reason to lock our bedroom door.

Right now we close our LO's bedroom door and our own when we all sleep, but none are ever locked. When LO is older and can get out of bed in his own we'll probably lock it when there's stuff he shouldn't see. ;)

@missifu: I think you should do whatever you feel comfortable with. If I slept naked (which I pretty much do but will change that when LO starts walking.... time to find some comfy pj's soon!) I would probably want to lock the door. But some families are fine being naked in front of each other.

here's the wrinkle in our situation. We sleep naked. I never locked the door and probably wouldn't until any future children we have could walk in during "sexy time." Then I would only probably lock it during that time.

DH has a six year old daughter who stays with us about twelve days a month. DH locks the door when she is staying over.

Our plan is to just lock it when we're having sexy time. I'd want it unlocked most of the time in case of emergency or if LO needs us. I sleep in my undies now, but when LO gets older that will change.

We keep our door cracked when the air or heat are on to get circulation. My parents used to leave theirs cracked. I don't remember them ever locking their door.

We don't even close the door. I'm sure when LO gets mobile, we'll close and lock it when we're having special time, but right now there's no reason to close it.

Our doors CAN'T lock (they're kind of like French doors that just close by magnet), so the decision is kind of made for us!

We sleep with our door open. When DH's traveling, I lock myself and LO in her room and I sleep with the shotgun close by. :P

I don't think we'll ever lock doors.. even when the kids are older.

I never lock a bedroom door, what if you have a fire in the house at night and emergency personnel need to get in? Yeah, chances are low, but I'd rather not lose precious minutes or seconds in an emergency.

We do not plan to lock our door because we worry that if LO needed us & we were sound asleep we might not hear her. We will probably lock it during "special time" but unlock it after.

We keep our door open at night even though LO is almost 3. He's never gotten up in the middle of the night but we'll start closing/locking the door just during "special time" like a pp said. Otherwise I like to listen to what goes on in the rest of the house in case someone tries to break in.

My parents never locked theirs.

We don't even close our bedroom door anymore since having the LO. Not that she can even climb out of her crib yet (she is in a sleep sack anyway) but we just want to be accessible to her, just in case.

I lock my doors at night, but it's because I'm a scaredy cat when I'm home by myself. When Hubby is home, we don't lock the door. I think when we have kids and they are old enough to get up and come in, we will probably lock it when we are having 'special time'.

I was talking to DH and he told me his parents used to lock their bedroom door at night for privacy. My parents did not. For those of you that have kids old enough to open doors and walk right in, do you leave the door open, closed but unlocked, or locked at night?

Also, would your answer change if you sleep naked?
