I love to celebrate, I love being with family (whether it's just my little family or my big extended family) and I love not being at work. My family lives on the other side of the country, and DH's family lives on an entirely different continent, so for the majority of the holidays it is just us. Well, my work life situation is very different from @Mr. Bee 's so I can love holidays. Usually holidays land on a Monday, which I have off anyway, and if Wagon Sr. gets the day off too we have a family day if daycare is closed. Bonus if daycare is open..!! Then we send Wagon Jr. and usually pick him up early so we can have an afternoon and early dinner out together. Super fun.</p> <p>If a holiday falls on another weekday I do get kind of frustrated since I'm paid hourly. :( </p> <p>Since we are religious I do love holidays since most of them go along with our beliefs, and I love embracing the secular (non-religious) side of them as well-- for instance, I'm so excited for this weekend with the easter egg hunt, easter bunny meet and greet, and easter sunday service at church. Great (free!) activities for the kids, an excuse to dress them up fancy and great photo ops for the whole family. </p> <p>Same with Christmas! </p> <p>Funny note: Wagon Sr. and I were talking about putting together the kids' easter baskets this weekend and I asked if he wanted to do the whole easter bunny thing, like pretending the easter bunny dropped them off and chalking bunny footprints by the door, etc. Like Santa leaving presents under the tree. He said "no, I don't think so, Easter isn't about the easter bunny, it's about Jesus." and I said "well, so is Christmas!" haha. </p> <p>We are pretty arbitrary. It bothers me when we hit yet another holiday (in this case, Good Friday).</p> <p>A small part of it is that I'm an atheist, and all the religious holidays kind of pile up on you after a while. Also, it seems kind of arbitrary - some holidays get recognized, and others don't.</p> <p>But much more than that: now that we have kids, I'm often behind at work and so a holiday will means that I will fall behind yet another day. Before I had kids it wasn't a big deal - I could work and catch up on my own (plus I wasn't as behind on everything). Now though, daycare is often off on holidays and I can't work at all.</p> <p>I am probably the only person who gets frustrated at holidays... I figure most people love them? </p>
