If I feel like throwing a big party, I do. If I don't, I don't. My kids have had a great time either way. My Dd actually really does appreciate some of the details. Like a specific cake, or having her favorite colors, or fun cupcake toppers for the daycare "party". She also always loved the themed gifts and foods I put together for her school parties. She always comes up and says "oh, thank you mommy! I love it!". So, it's nice that the child I'm doing it for, appreciates it! ;)</p> <p>@LovelyPlum: aw that's sad. :( I never had birthday parties growing up. Not even cake because my parents were always working. I never got birthday cakes till I was older and my brothers were working and had money. I think that's why I always want to make sure birthdays are a big deal for my kids. It's not a Pinterest worthy party every year. But it's always special in some way.<br /> And really, I don't think any of my parties are "Pinterest worthy" but it's is it fun to tie little details together.</p> <p>@Ree723: I was almost going to do a fairy party too!! If you *want* to throw her a party what about doing it a bit earlier or later? It could simply be at home with a few friends of hers. I've also started to bake and decorate the cakes. We usually have large parties at home. But then I remember the night before that I don't have any decorations so I usually end up going to party city and getting some balloons. To be honest, I don't care about decorations. I have more 'nailed it' projects than I do actual successes, so one of these days I will just accept that I am not 'that mum' and will just stop trying.</p> <p>That being said, I am in full on planning mode for DD1's 4th birthday in June - it's going to be a fairy garden theme and I am obsessed with planning for it.
