Sometimes it is just general things, like a hat, scarf and gloves that match my coat, or sometimes it is specific things like perfume or bag that I want specifically. With my family and DH, I'll come out and say what I want, especially if it is something very specific (I want these brown boots in size 9)-- I know they prefer that to having to pick something out that I may or may not like. Now MIL always asks me what I want, but I feel sort of bad asking for things and I just want DH to tell her my list so I don't have to feel grabby. I send her DH's list since I've been keeping track of the things he asks for or wishes for in passing.
