@looch: That seems very fancy! I was thinking more of just a single egg poacher, since DH doesn't eat eggs so it would just be for me, and maybe LO in the future.

My parents have a poacher, it's a pan with little wells for the eggs to lie above water...like this:

http://www.williams-sonoma.com/recipe/poached-eggs.html

We do it with just a large saute pan and water. No fancy poacher for just 4 eggs, but if you're doing more, a poacher is the way to go.

Thanks ladies! I think ill buy a poacher, and look for one that doesn't require oil.

I love them too. Some times I use these little poach pod holders and sometimes I pour the egg into the water. I prefer them just poured into the water, actually. (With some holders, you have to use oil and I don't like oil on my poached egg.)

Put a little vinegar in the simmering water and pour the egg very slowly from a cup (like a measuring cup) with a spout. It helps to keep the egg together. Two and a half minutes and the white is cooked with a runny yolk. Yum! Longer if you like a firm yolk. I put mine on toast with a bit of light cheese.

my husband showed me how to make it once - by plopping it in a pot. but i'm too lazy to try and make it again. like poached eggs, but only once in a blue moon.
