It's dark but not pitch black. There are big windows that open into the kitchen that are really high up (like they start at 10' up the wall) that I never bothered to curtain. They don't let in a ton of light but enough that I can see. He sleeps fine in there, though.

Dim but not dark. Started at 4.5 months when she stopped needing to nap in the swing!

Yepp! I darken the room and turn on the sleep sheep just like at bedtime.

Thanks everyone. Just had a nightmare hour and a half trying to get her down. The next nap she's going in the ergo, lol, we both need a break from that!

Yep, both for naps and bedtime. He hasn't napped or slept out in the living room since 3 months old, so we keep his nursery nice and dark.

We do, now that he's napping in his room. He definitely sleeps longer when it's dark. He'll sleep in the car/stroller though, no problem, even if it's bright.

Only when he's not acting tired and I put him down for a nap. Most of the time light isn't an issue though.

Yep...totally dark. He's never been the type of baby who falls asleep anywhere, so having a dark, stimulus-free environment totally helps!

@littlek: is it common for daycares to leave lights on? I toured a daycare last week and it was naptime, even for the older kids, and all the older kids' rooms had lights off (but light coming through windows, so not dark, just dimmed), but the infants' room had the lights on and kind-of loud "soothing" music playing.

All but 3 of the infants were asleep, so it didn't seem to be bothering them, but I thought it was strange. It will make me feel better if that's normal though!

Yep. We started around 5 months. Before then it didn't ate a difference. We were in the same mindset as @LemonLong: and wanted her to learn how to sleep anywhere, but it got to a point that she just needed a difference sleeping environment.

No, for naps she sleeps in random places in her swing or rock n'play where there's light, noise, and activity going on. At daycare they do put her in the crib and dim the lights though. We started doing the naps anywhere from day 1 so that she would learn to sleep everywhere through anything and know the difference between night and day sleeping. At night she sleeps in her crib in the dark. I think it worked for us, the other day she was asleep in her carseat and while we were carrying her across a parking lot we must have brushed against someone's car setting their alarm off. She didn't even stir with all the honking and lights flashing even though DH and I jumped a mile.

She normally naps in the living room, so no. Maybe I should though. The day care she's going to start at next week does.

We do for naps at home. Daycare they keep the lights on, so he naps with the lights on there.
