Halloween taught my son how to say Thank you. He had been occasionally doing it with prompting as a sign. But now, he will just say Dank after getting something. It's fantastic. We taught him please but he used that for everything. Now he will sit there and say "mohr" and sign please over and over again and I don't know what he needs.

Yes we drill these in... At first it was disheartening to have to ask Dd every time- "how do you ask!"(please may i have) or "what do you say?(thank you ) every. Single. Time. But it has paid off. We get compliments on her manners all the time from strangers.

We'll prompt him to say "please" so he's pretty good about that. But we haven't prompted him to say "thank you" yet. We model it for him every day so that he sees us doing it. But haven't prompted him to do it yet.

@Andrea: We didn't really think to introduce "excuse me" yet, but daycare has the kids use it when they bump into each other or need someone to move. LO will mow other kids down since he exists in a near-permanent state of motion/frenzy, but at least he's pretty good at saying "excuse me" when he does it.

We're pretty much the same as Rock N Roll - first we worked on please like "Milk please" then it was "Give me the milk please" and now we're working on "Can I have some milk please?". She always forgets "Yes, please" and says "yeah" which drives me crazy.
She's pretty good at Thank you and No, Thank you.
We're really working on "Excuse me" which will lead into "Excuse me please".

She's always said please and thank you in some contexts because we taught her to say "yes, please" and "no, thank you" whenever we ask her something (by doing it ourselves.) When asking for/receiving something, I'd say she's awesome at thank you, but still needs a little prompting with please (I think it was harder to pick up because putting the cause/effect of using it was more difficult since it was the cause instead of the effect.)

She uses "excuse me" when she wants to get our attention sometimes, but we're working on that as well. I'm also trying to get her to ask to be excused when she's done eating at dinner, but that one is slooooow coming.

She is good with please and thank you - but needs to be prompted sometimes. I don't have her saying excuse me ... when does Charlie say that? Like if he burps or farts? Or for you to move?

we are pretty constant about demanding "please" when he asks for something. not as consistent about "thank you" because sometimes his shy smile is enough of a thank you for us... haha. and "excuse me"-- not so much since he's not very pushy.

I've been working to drill these into Charlie... he says them upon prompting, and also sometimes on his own. But not all the time! Working on it. :-)

Do you make your LO say "please," "thank you," and "excuse me"? How is it going?
