Not an illness per se, but impairment - my husband is legally deaf. He wears hearing aids which help a lot and gives him back about 80% of his hearing, but sometimes it is really frustrating for the both of us. It's a common occurrence for me to have to repeat myself more than three times before he hears me.

Since I was 14 I've had consistent headaches and just need to consistently go to the chiropractor, when I was 19 I threw out my back so I have back troubles that come and go. But both issues are very manageable.

My husband has Cystic Fibrosis which is a genetic disorder typically associated with the lungs. He has a very mild mutation and milk form but he takes loads of medication every day. He also has a vibrating vest that loosens the mucus in his lungs every day.

DH and I both have diabetes. We keep each other on track and have a real understanding of what it feels like during highs and lows. Despite all of the attention diabetes gets in the media, no one really talks about the physical effect that comes with it or the stress associated with trying to keep it controlled. Fortunately, we can relate when bad days happen.

I am diabetic, so that means a lifetime of medication and dietary restrictions. Hubs is healthy though.

Not illnesses, but we both have chronic pain due to injuries from many years ago. (I think DH's is worse than mine.)

@artbee: wow, I'm glad he's doing pretty good! I had 12 inches taken out I think. Yeah, I have some awful memories of chronic constipation, hospital visits, needles, etc. I have really bad anxiety when I have to get any type of medical procedures done. Last year, I had to get an endoscopy done (to make sure everything was all good- this time for upper stomach issues) and a mole removed after it was deemed "suspicious" looking. Its kinda embarrassing how much I cry/freak out for those things but its just part of who I am I guess.

@redsmarties: my mil has that. She swears meditation helps a lot.

@lilteacherbee: it went good. They did more than expected, took out 15 inches of his intestine. He's finally home after over a week in the hospital which was pretty awful for him, everything seemed to go wrong. He's good, just very weak and tired. I can't imagine what you went through doing it so young!

I have irritable bowel sydrome. Definitely mild when it comes to all the chronic illnesses out there but it does affect my life. I also have issues with anxiety and when the anxiety gets bad the IBS tends to flare up too which is great... Hubs has a dust allergy which causes him to have sinus issues almost constantly.

I have something similar to Crohn's (whatever I have didn't even have a name back in 1996). Thankfully, the severity has lessened as I've gotten older, so it doesn't effect too much of my day to day life.

@artbee: How did your DH's reversal/recovery go?

I have fibromyalgia, which is chronic pain, among other things. DH doesn't, so I worry sometimes about the whole "getting it" thing. But he's incredibly understanding.

DH and I both do. He has crohns, and I get migraines. Sometimes I think that it's good because we can both relate to each other and never would get upset at the other if we have to miss an event or something because we know what it's like. But then two people with chronic illnesses means that you miss out on double the stuff, if one person feels fine the other usually doesn't, and even worse sometimes both are feeling bad but we have LO to look after. It's rough!
