One of my good friends brought me to a meeting and soon I was hanging out with some others involved in the "company". My parents were concerned so we all went together to the office to meet with one of the higher-ups. It was a really generic office so I wonder if it was just a temporary rental office! Apparently the guy did a decent job selling us because my parents didn't forbid me from participating (though they didn't encourage me at all).</p> <p>It cost $200 to join and I actually managed to sign up a few people as well, but I never saw a dime!! People try and recruit me all the time because they assume I have nothing to do and I'm pretty social. My BS meter is way sensitive and I thought that stuff was fishy before I even knew what those companies were all about. If a good friend/client is giving a party, most of the time I'll go but I find that the merch is so expensive for mostly crap. So you could argue that Mary Kay is a "modified" pyramid scheme. You earn more for recruiting other people -- but it does provide actual products.
