@mrschickpea: that's what I am thinking! We are leaning toward night because otherwise he will miss out on the summer evenings outside we so cherish. I may have a tough time having a nb and a toddler however, alone all night... thanks for filling me in! I know he used to work late shift noon-midnight and I felt I never saw him, that was rough prekids!

@FaithFertility: nice, yea for day shift! I know eventually he will move to day shift...

@LindsayLou: that would be really hard working opposite schedules!

We don't currently work night shift, and we haven't since baby was born 5 months ago, but we've both worked night or crazy early am shifts before. I worked 3am to noon for a year, and my husband worked 5pm to 3 am. Both sucked...but were manageable. The biggest issue we had was that we were working opposite shifts, so time together was scarce. It helped immensely to try to be awake together and doing stuff as much as possible on days off.

Just to add. I know it can suck on overnights family wise because of being gone at night but I would much rather have this shift and trudge through them work late evenings and miss dinner and evening family time. Especially when the kids are in daycare or school. My DH is a teacher so it's important for us to spend that time together. Not sure if that helps lol!

I work 11p-7am and though I'm still pregnant, we have a good plan in place, ready to go. I do know it will be challenging since I'll only be home overnight 2 days a week and DH will be doing all other wake-ups and feedings when I go back to work at 12 weeks. I've been on this shift for many years so we discussed how it would work with children before TTC. There's both pros and cons

@autumnlove: @MrsStar: thanks for weighing in! I think I could do that... he has 2 options-

His shift would be 10pm-630am, just trying to bend my mind around how that would actually play out, or 2pm-10:30. I wonder which is worse?

Dh works 2 different shifts. One week he does 5am-3.30pm and the second week he does 3.30pm to 2.30am. The days he is on the evening shift I do easy dinners, combined baths and I try to get the los in bed by 8pm at the latest so I can have some chill time after all the madness. Its doable - just a tad harder

DH works some 1:30-midnight and 7am-7pm shifts. I guess we are used to it and I just have manage my time well on those nights! Easy dinners, short baths, etc.

DH may end up on a night shift and I was wondering if anyone with experience was willing to share. Is it the worst thing ever, or not as bad as it sounds? (It will be nursing, if that makes a difference.) Thanks!

ETA: I "SAH" with (what will be) 2 littles, so I also have to consider how it will impact us.
