My husband picks up the occasional OT shift. I work salary so I'm not elegible for OT pay. I rarely, rarely ever work over 40 hours to begin with so it doesn't matter.

I think in the past 2 months both of us combined have gotten 2 hours overtime lol!

I used to get OT even though I was salaried, but when I got promoted to Manager, I lost my paid overtime :(

My husband is in Public Accounting and works like 70-80 hours a week during Busy Season with no OT at all, but he does get a post-Busy Season bonus and meals reimbursed for days he works over 10 hours, but its not quite the same.

I'm hourly, but we aren't allowed to work overtime.

DH works for an association that puts on events for members occasionally, so sometimes he has to work late attending the events as one of his job responsibilities is all event photography. So, sometimes he has to work late, but it is usually because he is at an event rather than pouring over work at his desk or something.

I get paid hourly. My husband is salaried but still gets overtime, which is soooo nice. He only gets it in four hour increments. So he has to work four hours extra, then eight hours extra, etc. if he stay over three hours then he'll try to find something to do for the last hour so he can get the overtime.

I'm self employed, so I guess I work overtime when I'm at home answering emails late into the night! But then sometimes I veg on the couch in the afternoons and watch tv when I need a break... so it balances out!

DH is salaried, but luckily gets overtime! Depending on what deals are going on, he works 10 - 20 hours of overtime a month. It really makes a big difference in his take-home pay!

DH does. Right now he's working 70+ hour weeks. He'd love to only work 40 & make enough for us to live off of, but that isn't happening. We are thankful for his opportunity to work extra hours elsewhere within the same organization so he's able to get x1.5, even if much of it is mandatory. We couldn't get by without the extra $$.

No one has addressed it in this thread, but there was much discussion in the fiscal cliff thread so I'm adding it for some prospective for those that might not have a similar experience to ours, but as far as how hard he works or how much responsibility he has or the amount of education he is required to have (and the student debt that goes along with that)- he works with children with serious developmental delays and special needs, he works within the academy where they go to school & the residential facility where most if them have been institutionalized, so he's responsible for many aspects of these children's lives, he has had his fingers broken, multiple sprains, a dislocation, and a fingernail put through his cornea, everyday his students smear & scoot in fecal matter which he has to clean up & often attempt to urinate on him during outbursts. He only gets bathroom breaks, no lunch break, he eats with students where his food is often stolen or wrecked by students. He is required to complete his masters in the next few years and continue taking classes to maintain his credentials. As a nanny working 4 days a week, my take home is TWICE his if he doesn't work extra hours at x1.5. So my point is that, we have a high debt to income ratio, he is educated, works extremely long ours in a physically and emotionally taxing job with a great deal of responsibility in a state with a high cost of living, but he gets paid crap because our government lacks funding to support these children.

We both salary (well DH is actually comission) so if we work late there is no extra pay. For DH sometimes he has to stay late or go in on days off if it means meeting a client or making a sale.

I'm salaried, but if I worked over 40 hours, I would get overtime pay. However, they generally prefer to give you time off on another day instead (if I worked an extra 2 hours, leave 2 hours early the next day, for example).

DH just found out his job is offering OT for the weekends. He can choose Sat or Sun (or both) and it can be any weekend(s) of his choosing. He's going to do it once a weekend until the baby is born. It's like, an extra grand a month, so it's pretty hard to turn down!
