My mom buys most of my kids' clothes! I tell her not to buy too much since I like getting lots of wear out of every day comfy clothes.
Was tempted to buy stuff for fall/winter, but gonna hold off. Neither of my kids have a lot of clothes!

@MrsMccarthy: @Bao: I buy my LO a ton of books as well! I love kids books so much! I always buy them second hand though, so they are cheap! There is a Goodwill outlet near me where books are .50 per lb.... I can usually get 5-10 books/$1 and many are like new! There is a regular Goodwill store nearby that has a great selection, but they are "expensive" at 3/$1 :)

Nope... Not any more. We cut off any clothes buying when Mr jacks got laid off and we really haven't missed having extra stuff. It's very liberating!

We've been lucky with a lot of hand-me-downs in stella condition. DD's pretty well outfitted through her first birthday.

That being said, I do love to shop, and having a little girl is mighty tempting. I do try to take advantage of major sales and our local consignment shops, cause we've got a strict budget.

I think she had a lot more when she was younger. She is seriously lacking in her next size up in clothes though. I used to think she had too many books, but you can never have too many books. She needs more books ;)

Yes again. For example, today I met up with a mom from Facebook and she sold me 9 pairs of shoes in my daughters size for $15. My daughter has plenty of shoes to last her until winter boot season but these were so cute! I will resell them when we are done with them for a reasonable price for someone else.

Well this season is the first I will be buying clothes for her, the last year I've had clothes from my sister's daugther, plus gifts. I bought very little. I do have some stuff from my sister, but my LO is very petite and her's was a chunk so they are starting to get off on sizes. I've been doing my best at shopping sales for pants/leggings, and will stock up at Carter's when they have their next big sale.

I honestly would if I felt we had more "leftover" money. But we just don't. I budget every dollar and stick to it, it's hard... I definitely "window shop" a lot but I just don't have the means to buy a lot of stuff.

To get the most bang for my buck I actually take inventory of my sons closet each season and have lists of what clothes he actually needs versus what I might like to get. Then we budget a set amount, and stick to it.

@HLK208: This is totally my problem too! She has like a MILLION outfits and already a full fall wardrobe where I look in my closet every morning and wonder "what should I wear". I have made it a priority to stay out of the kids section in the store and try to add to my wardrobe.

My DD wears all hand-me-down sleepers from my nephew... I figure that it doesn't matter if she's wearing boy colors in her sleep! So no issue there... However, I have a feeling that I overbuy the rest of her clothes. Most things I buy 2nd hand for .25-$3 per item, so it's not that much, but I probably buy a little more than I need, in general. I don't think I'd overbuy if I was paying more, but when an adorable like-new dress is $1, it's hard to resist! :) It drives me husband crazy!

Oh, I think I overbuy swim suits and hats... my LO has 3 suits and about 5 hats. :) 2 of the suits are bigger though, so they should last awhile. They were also $2-3 each.

ETA: I did just spend $$ at Janie & Jack for next Spring, but I will probably take half of it back!

When I first read this post, I thought, "of course I do!" But on further thought, we haven't had anything (except for shoes) which she has outgrown and never worn. I'm fairly good at editing, returning, and selling items so things don't go to waste. I DID realize though, that I was buying too many dresses. But those are so hard to resist!

The first 9 months C had enough hand-me-downs that I never had to buy anything. Then I bought mostly staples as needed so they are all mix and match. I feel like my kid is seen in the same clothes over and over and over again but I'd rather have just enough instead of too much. Now, if I had a daughter, I would definitely over buy.
