Thank you for all the input - good to hear different insights! Sounds like it's much easier to clean but our cats may ruin them since they enjoy scratching stuff. Now I'm thinking we may do microsuede again instead since for some reason they didn't scratch a microsuede one we had a long time ago. Decisions, decisions... :)

I have a cat and he doesn't seem to want to scratch them, but there has been a couple times he's used them to get up onto something else and his claws kind of scratched the leather. I try to keep his nails trimmed, but sometimes I forget.

Our dog lays on them and he doesn't do any damage.

I don't want to frighten you but we got leather couches in Febryary and our naughty cats have killed them! Every time they pass those things they take a swipe or rabbit kick them. They even have scratching posts but use both.

We have some that were gifted to us when we got married & we HATE them! With a young boy in the house & buttons on my jean pockets they haven't held up very well at all..... Seriously my back pocket button ripped a huge "hole" on one of the cushions when I was getting up one day & DS ripped another.

I miss cloth couches. :-/

We have a big leather sectional and overall I'm glad we bought it. However, I didn't anticipate the damage our cats would do to it--they don't scratch it with their front claws, but when they run around and play, their back claws scratch the couch, and honestly it looks pretty terrible. BUT: our couch is admittedly the cheapest kind of leather you can buy. My in-laws have really nice leather couches and when we lived with them our cats didn't scratch the couches at all. So, I would totally recommend leather (so easy to clean!), but make sure you have the budget to buy really high quality leather. It'll hold up for so long.

Yes, we have 2 and we love them! They are easier to keep clean, and although my cat has managed to scratch the hell out of one of them, it isn't *quite* as obvious as on the old cloth couch we had.

We have leather couches and I think they are better for pets. My old cloth sofas always had dog fur on it, even after vacuuming and lint roller-ing. Now if my dog gets on the couch (which he knows he isn't supposed to do!) we can just brush the fur off. No LOs yet but since I'm clumsy, I can tell you spills wipe off very easily. The only thing with cats is I could see the leather being really nice to scratch-- are they scratchers? Otherwise I think they are more durable.

One thing-- I feel like the leather can be a little colder. Our apt is on the ground floor, so it's always cool anyway, and the leather doesn't help that much. Not an issue if your house isn't already cold.

I so want leather couches. I think they hold up better than other types and our dogs make themselves plenty comfortable on my parents leather couches and they still look great.

we have leather couch/loveseat/ottoman/chair. We don't have pets, but I think they will last a very long time.

We're thinking of getting new couches and my husband has been begging me to consider leather. If you own leather couches, are they okay to upkeep with a LO and pets (with have two cats)? If we get new furniture, I don't want to have to think about buying new ones for a good 10 years!
