If daycare was more than our mortgage we would that would mean daycare would cost the same as the boarding school tuition rates of a nearby prep school. Ouch!! I don't participate because I find them obnoxious. There is literally some type of fundraiser every single month. If once or twice a year they did some sort of child or education related charity I would contribute. If daycare was not satisfactory in facilities, gear, etc. we wouldn't be sending our kids. </p> <p>If fundraising helps them *not* raise rates than I'm all for it. Ours is not for profit, and I know they rely on the fundraisers to do things like offer tuition assistance. They have a bunch throughout the year, and they ask you to pick what is convenient for you. The PTO sold coupon books and I did buy one. Sometimes they will have a deal with a local business, where if you go on a certain night, the business donates 20%. If it's convenient, I'll go, but I won't make a huge effort. I don't mind funding the PTOs efforts as much because they sponsor date nights where food is supplied, pizza days, special events, etc.</p> <p>I wish they didn't do it at all though. They also sell flower bulbs during the spring and sometimes I buy those. One is right about now selling chocolate from a local place for Easter. The second is in the summer for their annual family bbq day. Raffle tickets etc. </p> <p>We don't really participate in either!
