We don't exchange holiday gifts. Takes a lot of pressure off. I love it.

DH tried surprising me with gifts a couple of times. He learned really quick that he should just let me pick what I want. :)
I just let him know what I want and he either goes out to get it, or we get it together.

@SweetiePie: thanks! I do love it and will wear it all the time I know, and it wasn't excessively expensive...though more than I'd normally spend on myself, and dh has been a little worried about money lately since this ldr makes everything more expensive than when we're in the same place...

@nana87: The thing is, I really don't like dangly earrings on me. I love them on others but I have a small head and features so I think it looks silly on me.
SO I wanted stud-ish earrings but still something way 'more' than I'd wear daily. My jeweler offered to loan me a pair and I picked these out. So they were just big and each had seven nice sized diamonds. Obviously they aren't practical for every day (nor the price tag) so I am looking for a smaller pair that can be worn every day.

Pretty! Sucks about your earring! Well, DH tends to get me a piece of small jewelry for gifts, and I tend to want to exchange it. I usually end up with something that costs more, so then we just lump the gifts together. He'll say, that's your "anniversary/Bday gift", etc. I wish he were better at choosing gifts, because it'd be fun to get a surprise. But we all know I'm kind of picky, so telling him exactly what I want, or choosing on my own, usually ends up better.

I've already picked mine out. The earrings I wore for our wedding were "on loan" from my jeweler. I told DH I want them for our first anniversary :-) They were $10,000 so that isn't happening...but I've found the exact same earrings in a smaller version for much less.

So I totally messed up yesterday...

I lost an earring last week when my husband was here visiting me (we're in a temporary ldr right now...) and he said that we should go shopping to replace it and it'd be my anniversary gift. We didn't end up going shopping since our time was crunched, so yesterday I went to a store that sells the same brand, thinking they might have the same pair, and they didn't but I ended up buying a bracelet instead. But when I told him I got my anniversary gift, he says he had already bought me one! Oops, I had no idea--it'd only been 4 days and I thought he was struggling with what to get! I usually give him ideas anyway, via Pinterest. Our anniversary isn't for a couple weeks so I feel bad for preempting him, but we won't actually be together for it  and plus, we already him got his gift, which he picked out--tickets for a concert while he was here. ooooh well! I don't think he's really upset, and the bracelet will just be a very early Chanukah present instead, but still, I feel bad!

Does anyone else pick out or buy yourself presents? Or do you wait to be surprised? Has anyone else ever messed up and bought yourself a present when you shouldn't have?

And for good measure, a picture of the single earring left and my new bracelet, because I still love it even though I feel bad, haha. I'm going to have to get the earring made into a pendant so I can still wear it...
