We won't own any other breed. They're just amazing family dogs, smart, easy to train, and insanely loyal/loveable. We currently have 2....a full bred English Lab we've had since she was 8 weeks, and a rescue Lab we got when she was around 6. I grew up with both Labs and an Aussie. My parents currently have a standard Labradoodle, mini Labradoodle, and an Aussie. So basically they have a giant, medium, and small dog. The only one of those dogs that is tolerable is the Aussie, because she's intelligent. In my experience little dogs are always afraid of everyone. Small yappy dogs are so annoying, but I guess it could be the training/owners that are really the problem. That said I don't actually own a dog!! I would like to one day but haven't been in a position to commit to a dog. Small dogs are fine, it's the training or lack thereof that I don't like. I had our Aussie at a park on leash last week and we were attacked by two offleash Pomeranians. The owner insisted they were harmless but they bit me and my dog. Like, WTF don't let your aggressive did off leash! I did a lot of research on how to raise my Mini Aussie like a 'big' dog. It's not the small breeds that I'm not a fan of- more the behaviors/issues which are common. Not being potty trained, yapping, aggressive behavior being thought of as cute, jumping, etc. I know some things are breed specific but some is just poor training/boundaries. We have a medium 40 lb dog and she is perfect for us. My cousins all have tiny small dogs. They love them but there is not much to cuddle. Oh and if it were not for LO and DH I would probably not have a dog. Too much work no matter the size. I dont like dogs that are anywhere close to the same size/weight as me (I'm pretty small). Our big dog is 60lbs and I wouldn't want a dog bigger than that. I had a Springer spaniel growing up who was the best, sweetest girl and would love to go back to that breed someday when we don't live in an apt/have a yard. They're good for different reasons and I really can't decide which I prefer! Little dogs are snuggly but needy, big dogs more independent but he's also just so sweet where else my smaller dogs seems more selfish haha who knows. Small are easier in a lot of ways but I think my German would be easier if we just had him, he's definitely easier to train . I grew up with smaller dogs, and vastly prefer them! My kids are growing up with big dogs though, and I think they will be big dog adults. Makes me a little sad that they won't share my love and appreciation for little dogs!
