I only have experience with daycare and I love it so far! But when it comes to timing and working, sometimes I wish I had a nanny so I didn't have to worry about rushing home for pick-ups and such.

When we find great nannies, nothing surpasses that... but Lala still does half day preschool to get the benefits of both.

I think it really depends...If money were no object, then I would hire an amazing nanny and send her and LO to classes so he could get the socialization aspect. But doing both would realistically be expensive, so I think I'd rather do daycare, at least for part of the week, so he gets out of the house and gets exposed to other kids and activities. I'm going to be a SAHM but I am still planning on sending LO to some sort of day care type place around 1 year old for two days a week or something, just so I can have a break and he gets to do something different.

Daycare with solid skill development/educational curriculum. The only people I know IRL who had nannies had bad experiences even though they paid a higher than average wage (serious issues like stealing!), and I'm not entirely comfortable leaving someone alone in my home with LO. I also prefer the supervisor of a daycare; if one of the caregivers has a bad day, or needs a quick break, there is back up. Nanny, no backup, and what if they lose their temper with LO? There is no one to keep them in check so to speak.

I also want LO to get more social interaction. Her favorite activity is watching the older babies and trying to mimic what they do (eat solids, crawl, etc.). I think that social development on a daily basis is really important and beneficial.

So, even though we could hire a nanny for the same amount as what we pay in daycare each month; we prefer daycare.

I think daycare, though I don't know that nanny is even an option in my area. I've never met or heard of anyone IRL that has a nanny. I know there are tons of nannies in the city my sister lives in though, but that's 4 hours away from here.

We had a negative experience with a nanny, so I don't feel comfortable with that anymore. My ideal is a small daycare, either home or center, as long as the overall size is small and the child:adult ratios are good.

Daycare, I dont like anyone being in my home taking care of my child while I am not there. With daycare LO will know that once we are home mommy and daddy are in charge, rather than being confused with ther different roles of parents vs nanny. Plus I believe daycare is a more professional environment and they might take your rules more seriously than an in-home nanny

I'd prefer a pre-school with a solid curriculum.

Nanny - I prefer the 1-on-1 aspect of it.

I would prefer nanny until 15 months, and then daycare after that. So I guess my answer is cheating because I prefer them at different stages.

The logistics of dealing with paying a nanny is a big headache so that's a big reason to prefer daycare. But childcare has generally been more reliable with a nanny (not calling in sick) than charlie getting sick and staying home from daycare with no backup childcare.

What about you..... if money were no object, which would you prefer?
