Our baby is a mutt and I am ridiculously in love with her. We would definitely get another mutt down the road. I will say though, she was terrified of the world as a pup and we had to do quite a bit of rehabilitation to get her "normal." She also has had more health problems than any purebred I ever had and was diagnosed with a lifelong autoimmune condition at about 15 months. We've owned 2 mutt dogs and 2 purebred dogs in my life. The first was an Akita who tried to kill me as a child and then was put down after he tore open my grandfathers arm. The 2nd is a beagle who, while very sweet and loveable, has nervous/anxiety and joint issues. His papers are longer than my arm and he's had tons of health issues.</p> <p>Our 2 mutts were/are wonderful dogs. I'm only saying that because I have two show Yorkshire Terriers, and they are my world! When I went to get my first dog ever 6 yrs ago, I tried to adopt, but was told since I live in an apt I can't fully provide for a dog. So, I said screw you- I'll just buy a dog. Still living in an apartment, and my babies have no complaints! We've gotten both of our pups from a rescue, and they're both German Shepherd mixes. We did look at a German Shepherd that came from a breeder who had financial problems and had to get rid of his dogs, but that just didn't work out for us. </p> <p>My mom always told me that purebreds tend to have more medical issues. But my last dog, who was a mix, had soooo many issues. He had cancer twice, one as a puppy that he had surgery for, and once when he was 8 that wasn't treatable. He had a very sensitive stomach and allergies. He had so many psychological issues- he had bad separation anxiety, fear of heights, etc. So I don't believe that one is better then the other. </p>
