It was plenty for us, even when we needed some space. We continued sleeping on a queen when our first born started co-sleeping with us. We upgraded to a King and it's still not big/enough room for us because our son is almost 3 and we still co-sleep. AND he's a heavy roller when he sleeps. So even though we have a king, I'm sleeping on like 4" of the very edge of the bed. Therefore, king is a must for us. We're really cuddly sleepers, and I've never regretted it. Between the kid who comes to snuggle most nights, the other baby who coslept for her first 5 months, and the multiple dogs, we fill it up. Most nights we would fall asleep spooning blissfully.</p> <p>Pregnancy made it difficult to sleep well. Then having an infant messed with my sleep. Then various parts of my body hurt in various ways for a long time postpartum. Then the 18mo sleep regression hit, and our toddler landed in bed with us almost every night for 2-3 months.</p> <p>With so many factors messing with my sleep, I completely lost interest in spooning my way to sleep. It became Yet Another Barrier to decent sleep.</p> <p>We got a king sized bed around 18mos, largely at my husband's insistence due to my sleep issues. The extra space really helped.</p> <p>My parents always had (and still have) a queen, so I always thought a king was an unnecessary luxury. The mattress needed to be replaced and since we now have more space, we upgraded to a King. I think a Queen would have been fine too, but with kids the extra space is nice. I was on the fence about it, but now I'm so glad we have the king! When I was near the end of my pregnancy I took up a lot of space with all my pillows and there was still plenty of room for DH. We've slept in a king loads but we just don't like it as much - it feels like so much wasted space and like we're so far apart. We definitely sleep on our own sides of the bed once we're heading off to sleep so it's not that we like to be touching all night, but we prefer the intimacy of our queen.</p> <p>We also don't really bed share with our LOs either, so the kids haven't been a game changer in that regard. We will occasionally bring a LO into bed with us but we rarely keep them in with us longer than 15-20 minutes, then it's back to their bed they go. </p> <p>Also, DH and I are both fairly tall (5'8 and 6'3) but we're both on the slim side so it's not like either one of us take up that much space. Plus my hips hurt so I roll from side to side frequently through the night. </p> <p>With a baby, it was nice to have some space between us that he didn't feel it as much when I got up to nurse. The drawers are awesome for storage, but a headboard would be nice!</p> <p>@Foodnerd81: This exactly, the mattress and base are expensive enough in and of themselves (and in my state it's illegal to resell them) that I don't want to be needing another upgrade anytime soon! </p>
