We lived in a two story townhouse and I hated it. Everything that was downstairs I needed when I was upstairs and visa versa. Our stairs became a collection place of stuff that was on the wrong floor. No matter what, I need a basement (rec room / playroom) and attic (storage). I always liked two story houses, though. I live in a one story apartment but would love to move into a two or 3 floor townhouse. I like the additional privacy of having my bedroom/bathroom upstairs and not on ground level. I don’t mind going up/down stairs; the only trip I find to be a pain is having to go down into our basement for laundry. We live in a raised bi-level, so the bottom level has full sized windows, but we have it as a secondary family rooms, and are finishing the 2 guest beds and guest bath. Our main level has all of our living area, and our master bedroom. Our current home is two and a half. You come in and can either go into the basement or main floor. The main floor is living area, and then up a half story for kitchen and dining.
