We bought a new construction house almost 2 years ago, I haven't protested the levy at this point because it is assessed at less than what it appraised for. But I did also refuse to fill out the not required survey about our house (if it had hardwood floors or granite counters or finished basement); they know how big it is, beds & baths because of the building permits and thats all they need to know.

Our property taxes are some of the lowest in the nation so I don't bother.

We just had a pretty decent increase, but the assigned market value was still below what I would expect to get if I listed my house so there was no point in arguing. If I didn't think the number was fair, or to my benefit, I would have definitely argued it!

I’ve protested every year since we bought 4 years ago. Pain to pull it together (especially once you don’t have a recent appraisal etc) but worth it, because as you say the effects are cumulative over time. In my county we can protest online first and then go in if we want to speak further. I got about 40k off the value this time so I’ll take it even though I’m still not sure it’s at market (our area has been going crazy since we moved in and they have jacked tax appraisals like crazy also).

With the online option it really feels like everyone should try! That’s actually what one of the guys I met with to discuss told me ... they can only do it in a blanket way by neighborhood and it’s always worth trying.

Last year we became homeowners for thr first time and this year we received our 1st assessed tax value of our home. It was significantly higher than what our home was appraised for our what we it cost is to build thr home. We decided to protest it and it was surprisingly straight forward. They took off a considerable amount once we showed them our closing documents.
I wonder why less people protest, many of my neighbors just complain about it but accept it but thday ultimately affects my assessment next year! I have been trying to convince them all top go in and protest too but mant think its a waste of time trying.
Do you protest?
