We generally do not, but when we were thinking of booking a babymoon to Hawaii, we definitely only considered American Express Travel so we could buy their "cancel for any reason" travel insurance. You can cancel for ANY reason until the plane is in the air and with pregnancy complications, who knows!? Even luckier for us, I DID have a complication but it was diagnosed before we committed to an itinerary! It would have been $200 on a $3000 dollar itinerary but totally worth it.

*Edited to add: Now that we're going to have to juggle a baby, we also just got a Southwest Airlines card so that if we have to cancel a flight at the last minute we can at least apply the credit to a future flight. And we'll probably lean towards not booking those last minute Priceline deals anymore. Boo hoo.

We always buy traveler's insurance when we traveled before LO. Now that we have LO, we feel even stronger about it. LO have a ton of allergies, we get it for piece of mind just in case something happens. We like to know that we will have access to an air ambulance no matter where we're traveling to.

Yes. I did so even before we had LO. It's not just for medical insurance either. Once DH and I got stuck somewhere, and travel insurance covered our flights we had to book (our airline claimed they couldn't get us out for another week) and even our additional meals and lodging. It's important to look at each policy to see what's included. If you're only concerned about medical, I would check what your current policy covers. I would also look into whether your credit card company(ies) have any similar programs.

I don't think so b/c a lot of times the terms aren't that great. I think my credit card provides some sort of insurance already also.

We do now we have A, unless it's a trip back to England because we'd get treatment on the NHS. We still get it for A in England though as she doesn't have English papers yet.

We use a credit card that offers travel insurance to book trips. Thankfully we haven't needed to use it but it's really nice to know it's there.

We do only for house rentals on the OBX during hurricane season. You just never know and the insurance premium is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of the house.

We haven't but I see the appeal with children. Luckily we will be driving and the hotel/condo is through points so we can cancel last minute and be fine.

@mrsjyw: Did you change it to the week of Sept 15th?

Coming from Canada, I know my mom purchased it when we would travel in the US, since medical care is so expensive here. When my brother (who lives in Canada) broke his arm snowboarding in the US, he had some basic coverage via his private insurance that he gets from work, but it was quite minimal and he pretty much just got something to hold his arm in place at the hospital and came home to get it properly taken care of.

If I were traveling somewhere to do something with a high possibility of injury (like snowboarding), I would probably get some sort of coverage.

Depends where we go. If we're going to the Caribbean during hurricane season we would get travel insurance. If it's domestic we usually don't.

I've never paid for travel insurance. I've heard that you basically have to be hospitalized for them to reimburse you (but obviously this depends on the plan).

I assume that this is for international travel?

We are in Canada, which is a different kettle of fish, but my husband's company's plan covers us for travel as well. For trips under I think 2 weeks we don't need to notify them (but we always do), for longer we need to. Knock on wood that we've never had to use it...

I think when it was just us, DH and I used to only get it for expensive, long trips aka our honeymoon. Since we've had DS though I've been much more apt to buy trip insurance!

We booked our trip last minute last summer, so we didn't...but I just booked our family vaca for Sept and def paid for travel insurance. 2.5 months is a long time away! FX we are all healthy to travel!
