She's still pretty young (9 months), but we do about 10 minutes. Since her books are super short, that's more than enough books (usually 4-5). :)

We do two, one in English and one in French. Sometimes we will just read one book if the story is particularly long.

@mrbee: LO is 10 weeks so the books are just for the bedtime routine right now. We usually do 3 books, but last night DH picked a loooong book so we did 2. I joked that we need to remember to never pick that one when she's older!

I'm putting Olive down these days, and I usually read her 2-3 books. They're shorter than the books I read Charlie though, so it doesn't take nearly as long!!

We do one at naptime and one at bedtime; I figure once DS gets old enough we'll let each of them pick a book for bedtime, instead of just DD.

We can't really read books because my son REALLY wants to eat them. He will spend the whole time trying to wiggle his way over to grab the book, and he does not want me to turn the pages. I am trying to be patient until he outgrows this stage, but I love books and I am really looking forward to being able to read to him.

i read about 3 books. it all depends on how much time we have that night. sometimes more, sometimes less but when i tell the DD that it is time for bed, she knows i means business and goes to sleep.

I used to read three board books a night, but now that she's into longer books it's one or two. I don't feel bad as I often end up reading her a ton of books during the day while I'm nursing the baby.

We read him 3 as well. He used to push for more than that and pick really long books like the dr seuss ones. So now it's a firm 3. I think my husband may have knocked it down to 2 now. The 'one more, one more' bit was getting out of hand.

@mrbee: Do you still camp out in his room every night? Our son has been a horrible sleeper this past week - waking up in the middle of the night. The last two nights, he started yelling for us an hour after putting him in bed. I just walk in plop myself on the floor and sleep alongside his bed. We have no idea how to fix his sleep issues.

That's a lot! It does depend on the length of the stories though.

I only read one a night, his favorite right now is "Good night, good night construction site"
Some nights he gets a few chapters from a big children's book. I try not to drag it out because then he expects an hour and a half of preparing for bedtime, lol.

I have been reading 3 books to Charlie every night lately. For a while, I was reading 4 books. I was considering increasing the number, but it's amazing: no matter how many books I read Charlie, he always wants one more!

So, 3 it is. Then I use a trick that Bee taught me: say absolutely nothing and wait for the kidola to fall asleep. It works every time! The only problem is, it works on this kidola too and I wake up 5 hours later and it's midnight and I'l sleeping on the floor with my son.

Anyway, do you read to your LO during bedtime? If so, how many books do you read?
