I plan on it, once they're no longer newborns and are more interested in the world around them. According to my sister (teacher and reading specialist) the magic developmental number is three books a day.

@mrbee: good to know! Right now my son's books are mostly picture books with very few words, but I've just ordered up a new crop and will be more consistent and see what happens. Thanks for the tip!

@looch: I used to do that too, until I realized that Charlie was absorbing way more than I thought! I would pause at certain words and he would blurt them out if he knew them. I started being much more faithful to the text, and he started memorizing a lot more words and phrases from his books!

Yes, but I don't always read the words in the books, sometimes I make up stories to go along with the pictures.

This is in addition to the reading at nap and bedtimes.

We do now!
We have started recently, it took him a little over 4 months to pay attention to books and me reading. He loves the Boyington books!

Not everyday. I hope to get into a better habit of doing so. My grandparents recently sent a bunch of books to DS and he likes to flip through them even though he's only 9 months old.

Yes! Baby Y has become a voracious reader lately. We sit in the nursery, where he has tons of books in his IKEA bins, and he throws book after book at me. And believe it or not, he sits patiently and looks at (nearly) every page very intently before throwing another book at me.

Not every day. :P I really should, but I can barely get through a couple of pages before she starts clawing at the book.
