I do. I knew him since birth, he was a tiny genius. They took him in to have his IQ tested after someone noticed him reading a window sign from the inside of the store (so backwards) at normal speed at age 3. Yeah...
He went to college at 15 or 16 I think, but we've lost touch now.

My good friend from high school is a freakin' genius. Every year our city's big newspaper runs a story of the highest averages achieved my students and back in the day, my friend made news when she had something ridiculous like a 99.2% average (she got like 100% in calculus, English, and biology). Anyway, she's an engineer now and makes parts for NASA. And she has a side business in jewellry-making. AND she sews. AND she is a great artist.

I almost hate her. Just kidding, she's my buddy.

I definitely remember the smartest kids, there were 3 of them. 1 was the smartest at EVERYTHING all through elementary school and then I lost touch with him in high school. He went to one of the best colleges in our state and dropped out freshman year. He's now working at a supermarket and from what I get from his FB posts, does little more than smoke pot all day.

I, too, feel sad for his wasted talent.

Regarding the other 2 kids I mentioned... one was my best friend growing up, we lost touch but she became a teacher and seems to be doing very well with her life, and the other is....my HUSBAND! He's doing pretty well himself! :)

I do, there were three of them. Darin, Bart, and Jennifer. Darin was the smartest, he is a neurologist on the east coast, Jennifer was the actor/singer who was always the star, I heard she did a few off broadway shows but I don't know what after that. Bart, truely talented. He moved to Europe and is a concert violinest and plays with big symphonies all over Europe. They are trying to get back to the states to live but immigration doesn't recognize same sex couples :(

I do because I was always secretly competing with them! They were both in gifted with me and we were all close friends. They are both in college.

In my elementary school there was one guy who was way smarter than everyone else. His dad was an abusive alcoholic and he became a drug dealer. He did get himself to college at some point and might be clean now.

This is funny to me because apparently at my first elementary school that kid was me. When I was that age I thought the smartest kid was someone else until he contacted me a year ago on a social media network to tell me that he both liked me and was jealous of me when we were kids because I always scored a few points above him on our projects. He became the student with the highest grades at that school--but he said he knew if I had stayed in the school it would've been me. I was pulled out of that school to attend a special program for the "gifted and talented." And that boy, well, he's not so successful :(

When I got to my new school I was a nobody and I don't know what happened to those smarts!

I will never forget the smartest kid in my fourth grade class. He was so clearly smarter than me, it wasn't even funny. It was such a humbling moment, to realize that there were people out there that could wipe the floor with me if they wanted.

It turns out though, that he didn't want to. He moved to Europe in high school and came back a raging alcoholic. Instead of feeling relieved though, I just felt so sad for all that wasted talent. It was the first time I saw immense talent squandered to an addiction. I hope he turned things around at some point...

Do you remember the smartest or most talented kid you grew up with? What did they end up doing with their lives?
