The first time, it was Valentine's Day and he'd gotten me a book called "Choose to be Happily Married." I didn't really ask him what he meant by it, but in my defense it had been a rough day... I'd been up crying all night before because I accidentally signed up to work late on Valentine's Day and we had to scrap our plans to spend the evening together. I was so glad that he'd stayed up late waiting for me anyway! We had spent the previous night at his best friend's house cooking dinner for them because they had 2-week-old twins. He was completely hung over! I think he just said, "Will you marry me?" I'm not sure what inspired it but maybe it was hanging out with the babies? Then we stopped for ramen before going to his mom's house (as scheduled). And we went ring shopping together the next day. We didn't tell anyone we were engaged until my engagement ring was ready a few weeks later.
