The Challenger explosion - No, I was 4.

The OJ verdict - We watched it in PE class in Junior Jr. Our school went on lockdown (although they didn't call it that).

Columbine - Junior year of HS. I don't remember hearing about it by my boyfriend's mom picked me up after school and drove me home so my mom could hug me instead of whatever plans we had.

Rodney King riots. I grew up in LA County so I remember the riots vividly. The beating of Reginald Denny mainly. I was in 4th grade and a few of my classmates' parents businesses were burned. My GS troop was camping on Catalina Island mid-riots and I remember looking back toward the mainland and wondering what the city was going to look like when we got back. My class took a field trip of LA that year and it was essentially a tour of riot damage.

OJ verdict - I was in 6th grade in my history/English class. We were really disappointed she wouldn't let us watch on tv, when it felt like all the other teachers did.

9/11 - I was sleeping! But I grew up in California so it was pretty early then. I was a senior in high school. But I remember my dad was watching it all on tv and seeing the first tower fall before I left for school. The second tower fell when me brother and I were listening to the radio in my parked car waiting to go in.

Challenger Explosion - My mom was pregnant with me.

9/11 - I was a sophomore in high school. I remember watching the first tower collapse on the tv in my Algebra II class.

Obama's inauguration - I was in college. We had a snow day that day so I watched it on the TV in my apartment with DH (we were dating then).

@littlebug: We're the same age and I was in similar places during all those events! 1st grade for the Challenger explosion, high school for OJ, first year of grad school for 9/11 (still remember exactly what I was wearing too as I was just coming home from the gym - I never was able to wear my Naval Academy plebe shirt again without thinking of that morning.... I opened our apartment door just as my roommate was saying 'oh my god, oh my god' as the second plane crashed into the south tower.)

I can't remember where I was when the OKC bombing occurred but I remember being addicted to the news for days afterwards. I couldn't get over the fact that the bombs were set off just underneath the building's day care facility, and that picture of the firefighter carrying the dying baby still haunts me to this day. :crying:

I was only 3 at the time of the Challenger explosion, so I don't think I saw it.

No idea where I was for the OJ verdict, I didn't follow the trial all that closely. I also don't remember exactly where I was when Columbine happened, just hearing about it afterward.

Bush/Gore was my freshman year of college and I stayed up most of the night with some friends. I think we went to bed around 3:30 or 4 am when it was clear the election wouldn't be called for awhile.

9/11 was my sophomore year of college. I had just gotten out of the shower, went back to my room and turned on the radio to listen while I got dressed, and heard something about a plane hitting the WTC. I turned on my computer to pull up the news, and while I was logging on was when the second plane hit.

Barack Obama was elected my second year of law school, I was at a bar with friends watching when the election was called. I watched the inauguration with some of the same friends and we had super nerdy conversations about Justice Roberts' oath slip.

OJ verdict - high school PE class. I also remember watching some of the OJ car chase on TV.

9/11 - I had just started my study abroad year in Paris and heard through email when my brother messaged me to tell me he was ok (he was in DC when it happened).

Barack Obama - watched it at work. We set up a TV and half the office gathered to see it.

Columbine - senior year of high school in the yearbook class.

Bush/Gore - I was a sophomore in college (in DC) so tensions were high. I remember seeing the papers the morning after the election and being shocked that it hadn't been decided.

I definitely remember hearing about the others, but I don't remember where I was. I remember the front page of our local paper had the picture of the fireman holding the injured baby after the OK City bombing. :bummed:

@littlebug: I remember I was watching tv in my room eating breakfast when 9/11 happened. I was a junior in high school and I watched the today show every morning. I watched the second plane hit. But a couple years ago, a kid in my high school class posted something about how we all watched it happen at school. Which clearly didn't happen (the timing was wrong.). Memory is such a funny thing.

I remember my dad had picked me up from school for lunch when the oj verdict was announced. There were tvs at the restaurant.

I was teaching at a school on the west side of Chicago when Obama was inaugurated. So amazing to watch that with my kiddos (they broadcast it for the entire school).

The "I'm so old..." post made me think of all these things. Do you remember where you were when some of the major news stories of the past few decades happened?

The Challenger explosion - 1st grade. I vividly remember my teacher's face when she rushed out of her chair (which was a feat, as she was "really old," ie probably 60, ha!) to turn off the tv!

The OJ verdict - the nurse's office at the elementary school. I was in high school but volunteering as an elementary school teacher's aide.

9/11 - College (2nd senior year). I'd just gotten out of the shower and was standing in our living room in nothing but a towel when the 2nd plane hit the South Tower

Barack Obama's inauguration - At work. I watched it in spurts in the family lounge on my floor at the hospital.

Columbine - College (junior year).

Bush/Gore election - College (1st senior year). I remember having an argument about it with my college roommate after we stayed up late watching the results.

Other major events that happened but I don't know where I was - Rodney King, USSR disbanded, Berlin Wall falls, OK City bombing...
