I actually do remember quite a bit from my labors (both unmedicated, the first at home, the second in a hospital). But I think it takes some time for your mind to process and bring things back to your conscious memory- does that make sense to anyone? Or maybe I just forget how much I forget, lol. I've never had anyone (other than myself) write my birth stories or detailed notes, but even just talking about the whole thing with someone who went through the experience with you can bring up a lot of memories and little details.

I kind of consider her birth to be a 'natural' birth - in the definition of med-free, cause every birth is natural :) - because I didn't get the epi until 10 +3, right before I pushed.

I don't remember much of the details of my labor, to be honest - my water broke at 4:50, and contractions started maybe 20 minutes later? by 6, I knew we needed to go to the hospital. we didn't get there til around 7, and they didn't get me into a room til around 8:15-8:30. the details are hazy, cause I was so focused on surviving haha. if I had a longer labor, I think I may remember more...but mine was so intense and fast that I could barely keep my wits about me!

@runsyellowlites: Thanks! I hope you get your chance at a homebirth soon.

I'm so glad I wrote my birth story down and all details I remembered right away since things were so blurry!

I can remember a decent amount off the top of my head (8 months pp) and my awesome midwife wrote my birth story for me and I also have the hospital notes to help me remember other details.

I probably only remember because I wrote my birth story right away so that I wouldn't forget. I remember more how I felt than the actual facts of what went on. I'll never forget how elated and euphoric I felt at the end... it was amazing.

not really. my concept of time was really warped (was in the tub for 3 hours, but it only felt like 30 minutes to me). Were it not for my husband filling me in afterwards and writing down my birth story as soon as I got home, it would be even foggier! I was just in such a zone!

I remember a lot... but I had help piecing it together. I also wrote my birth story down 4 days after. My mom and hubby helped me remember specifics. Plus my hospital was awesome and wrote down detailed summaries every half hour.

I don't remember much from my natural birth or my epidural birth! Both were a blur.

I remembered quite a bit BUT it was all mixed up and I had NO concept of time! I would think things happened not long after another only to find it had been like 8 hours! I used my MW's notes to be able to organize my birth experience... without it my birthstory wouldn't have been anywhere near accurate! lol

Oh and congrats on your homebirth!!! I can't wait for our next! (well hoping it actually ends at home & not transferred. lol)

I had a homebirth two weeks ago and am amazed at how little I remember about my baby girl's birth! I remember bits and pieces but I guess I thought I'd remember more things. I'm guessing at some point I went into some place in my mind away from everything to focus and labor. My labor was about 8.5 hours from start to finish, although it felt like 3 days :-) I'm glad my doula and midwife kept a birth log to fill in the details for me and I'm sure once I have the guts to look at pictures it might bring back some memories.

Do you remember many details from your unmedicated birth?
