I've called a number of things (ham, prosciutto, pepperoni...) "bacon" to placate my LOs....I also tell them lasagna is "pizza pasta", and that makes them happier than calling it lasagne.

I can't ever say soup is soup....they're weird like that. They'll eat "black beans" or "lentils" but call it soup and they won't touch it.

My parents used to tell me every meat was "baby steak" growing up or I wouldn't eat it. Wtf is baby steak?! Lol

For DD I tell her the Snap Pea Crisps I give her are chips so she gets all excited

Oh totally! Broccoli are tiny miniatures trees, cauliflower are the same but Elsa zapped them with ice which is why they are white, she asked for a donut once so I cut a piece of bread with a biscuit cutter and told her it was a "flat donut". Meh, whatever works!

Not that I recall. I've probably said spaghetti squash is noodles before but it didn't work. We used to tell my nephew peas were called "ball beans" to get him to eat them. Totally worked.

@yin: Ha ha, I thought scallops were marshmallows!

I don't rename things, necessarily. But I will "leave out" information, like forget to mention that chicken is in a casserole we're having. And I've definitely told him spaghetti squash is spaghetti.

We don't have to do this with lo yet, but salmon was "pink fish" to my oldest niece for a long time!

My mom did the opposite of this once accidentally - I really loved tapioca and then one day she said growing up she's always called it "fish eye pudding" and I never ate it again.

My mum used to do this! She said chicken was rooster and told me she went to Blackpool to get fish every time we had it because I would only eat Blackpool fish. Blackpool is about 70 miles away from where we live!

I guess I lie by omission? I was eating cottage cheese and they wanted some of my pudding. Also, they told me that they really liked the "pink chicken" aka salmon and I did not correct them.

I find that if I call certain foods different things than my LO's will actually eat it. For example, today I made cheese quesadillas for lunch. I told the girls this is what we were having and my 3 year old immediately said she didn't like them. I finished cooking and then said it was inside out cheese pizza and they ate it.

Do you ever change the names of things to "trick" your LO?
