DH deployed when DS was 10 days old, so I was the only driver and there weren't any other options. Now, at 12 months old, I only sit in the back if he's extremely cranky. If we do, it's for longer trips and with LO rear facing, I can't see what he needs without undoing my seatbelt and kneeling on the seat, which is pretty dangerous. We do have a mirror though and that helps a LOT - I feel much more comfortable driving around knowing that we can see her without having to contort ourselves into crazy positions.
