@MsMamaBear: We have the Jeep Liberty stroller, which can work as a jogging stroller as well as an all around/off road stroller. @Mrs. Pen wrote a review on it some time ago.

My little guy did great, he likes it when we go fast, since usually we are just walking/hiking with the stroller. He was less than thrilled by the end because we were all soaked, but none of us got sick from it being so rainy and cold either, so I call it a success.

I run because I realized pretty young that I'm faster than I am coordinated. So being fast/having stamina makes me seem way more athletic than I am :wink:

I don't have any brand loyalty for shoes though over the many years I have found there's some brands that I avoid. But those brands some really great runners love, so I think a lot about shoes is just going to have to be by feel. If you go to an actual running store they can help you out a lot more than department stores to help figure out which shoes are good for your type of feet/gait.

The best way for me to get back into running when the going is tough is to do a combo of running and walking. When I'm running I try to make sure I'm breathing hard (though not to the point of exhaustion) and then I take a break and walk for a bit. Slowly over the weeks those walking segments become shorter and the running segments become longer.

@MsMamaBear: Also, you can track your mileage outdoors by using mapmyrun.com - it allows you to map out your runs and figure out how many miles you want to run roundtrip.

@MsMamaBear: A half marathon is 13.1 miles! I only trained up to 9 miles when I did my first one, and it's true what they say... most of it's mental!

@Lindsay05: You'll get back into after LO's born!

@Mrs. High Heels: How far is a half marathon? I thought a 5k was 5 miles before I did it.lol I'm going to ask about your shoes. I keep reading those are the ones everyone has and I haven't heard any Nikes, which were the ones I'd have looked at first.

@lemondrop: Yeah, the only reason I did my 5k was b/c we were running from zombies.lol I want to do a color run soon. I'll add the Brooks to my list to ask the running store.

@mythreeboys: That's really good you can ease back in. Those Asics are definitely popular on hellobee. :)

@sera_87:  LOL!

@runnerd: How fast did it help you hit your weight loss goal? I'm doing the fast/slow down thing to burn more fat, faster.

@lemondrop: Definitely gonna download this one!

@BoogieBea: I think that's why I like the treadmill, I see the speed I'm at and such, but then I've never really just ran outside. My friend does 5 miles, maybe I should try a mile with her, just to try it out. I'm going to a running store tomorrow with my long list of shoes to try out, so hopefully I can find some that are just right.

@Arden:  LOL!

@Smurfette: We're opposites. I didn't even want to try, even laughed in my trainer's face, but now I like it.LOL!

@lemondrop: How did your son do during the run? do y'all have a jogging stroller? I thought about taking my LO but it was a zombie run, so she might have been scared and no jogging stroller.lol Maybe if my friends and I do a color run I'll take her.

@Rubies:  LMBO!

Thanks ladies! There's a running store downtown, I think I'll go in there and ask about some shoes.

I want to try the zombie app, it sounds fun. My 5k was a run from zombies, otherwise I would have never done it.lol

@Mrs.Pen: SO glad the speed up, slow down thing burns fat faster. I have 60lbs left on my goal and I want to be a little closer by Christmas! There's a store downtown I'm going to go look at. Maybebthey'll let me run around in a pair.

@MrsSCB: Thanks! I'll use these because all I do is a walk warm up. Ugh. I'm still learning.lol

@jillybean218: That's kinda what I do with my trainer. If I didn't have him, I'd only half my motivation. Circuts are HARD!

@Navy_Mommy: That sounds interesting! I might try that one day. It would definitely fit in with the going fast then slow. I bring my music b/c the gym tvs are on news and it's so depressing, made me cut my workouts in half til I started just using my phone.lol

@PurplePeony: That sounds fun! So it trains you for a 5k? I need that. I want to run the WHOLE time for my next one, not run/walk.

@mrsjazz: I wish I'd started running when I was younger, I wouldn't need to be on a weight loss goal like I am now.lol Only 2 stops, like you never stopped! My goal is to be that good for my next 5k.

@Dandelion:  LMBO!!

@babyjmama: That's what I like too! I used to think people who said that were crazy. I understand now!

@meredithNYC: Yes, that's what I need to try, easing it, because I think I really pushed it 5k.lol Is a 25k a full marathon?

@grizz: I think I'm going to the store tomorrow to see. It's a full running store, so I'll definitely get better shoes there. I'm not going to tell y'all the ones I'm running in now o y'all will laugh me off Hellobee.lol

@Dandelion: Ha, ha! A backyard color run might be fun for your boy ;) The cool thing about the Color Run is that it isn't timed, so there's no pressure. My husband is a runner (I'll never understand that runner's high thing), and my confession- I didn't train. at. all! I told him I did... but I didn't :p

We alternated jogging and walking at a fast clip and did fine and had a blast! It rained like crazy, but that made it even more fun. We even took our 12 month old (at the time) in the stroller. We are definitely doing it again next year. It might actually convince me to train :)

@lemondrop: Yeah, the Color Run looks like a lot of fun, and I get tempted to sign up for that one, but I just don't have the ambition to train. I'd rather just roll myself in paint and get the same effect.

My older brother runs marathons and ultra marathons and even has a whole blog and stuff for it. My bff runs, too. Maybe their obsession with it turns me off, lol.

Proper shoes are definitely important. I agree with others, go to a store that can analyze your stride and get fitted for proper shoes. I personally hate running. I just force myself on the treadmill many years ago so I can get some cardio into my workouts. Then I realized I enjoy running outdoors more but I was running at a much faster pace than my body is capable of. Running with a heart rate monitor helped me get a comfortable pace. They say that if you're able to hold a conversation, you're at a good pace. My husband and I just signed up for the marathon this year. Tomorrow is my long run so I should be sleeping now so I can get out there before it gets too hot.
Oh and I've joined a mothers running group so that also helped me get back into running having the kiddos.

Yep!! I started back in 2010 to lose weight, then fell in love with running for performance - the fact that I love the running challenge is the reason I've stuck with it the past 3 years. And it's my quiet time!

I love running outside in all weather, although the heat is toughest. My twin sister and I have been running together for 10 + years with breaks only for surgeries and pregnancy. Despite my desire to run while pregnant, I felt nauseous and extreme exhaustion both times. But I ease back into it afterward and am currently training for a fall 10km. Now that we are older, we cross train a lot to avoid injury, focusing on core strength. Running makes me happy even when it hurts. My shoes are always Asics Nimbus.

@Dandelion:  Bwahahahaahahaha!  I love it!

I'm not a big runner, usually I need motivation like something big and scary chasing me or a fun 5k like The Color Run. I don't do a lot of pavement running because I have bad knees, so it's more treadmill and ellipticals.

I really like the Brooks running shoes though! Feels like I am walking/running on clouds :)

Oh I LOVE running, but don't have the time for it these days. I haven't ran in awhile, but prior to getting pregnant I ran 6 half-marathons and DH and I had signed up for our first full marathon (but then I found out I was pregs and we didn't end up doing it).

I started out because a friend begged me to run a Nike 5-miler race with her. I was reluctant because I couldn't even run 1-mile, but once I trained and ran that race... I was hooked. The next run I signed up for was a half-marathon, and I tried to follow Hal Higdon's training guides, like this one - http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51131/Half-Marathon-Novice-1-Training-Program

The single most important thing you need to prevent injury is good shoes that fit your foot type. I'm an overpronator, and the ASICS GT-2100 series fit my feet well. Also, don't up your mileage too soon - too much too soon will lead to injury too.

I hate running on the treadmill and still can't run more than 3 miles on that machine, but I love being outside and can run for miles and miles as long as I have good music and good weather. I never thought I would love running this much when I first started, but I do... and I crave and long for it.

I was at my running best before getting pregnant the first time. After morning sickness, being hugely pregnant, giving birth and now pregnant again, I can barely walk up a flight of stairs. I might sign up for a 5k next spring just to motivate me to get back into it.

I started running when I was 12 because my grandfather was our school's cross country and track coach... I didn't want to disappoint!

I love it and still run. I'm also considering getting my endorsement to coach running. Just stick with it and set small goals for yourself! Shin splints usually come about due to doing too much too soon, or incorrect fit or old shoes. A running store can watch your gait and fit you with the perfect pair!

I do, though I'm not sure I would say I enjoy it? I started in early spring doing the Couch 25K method, which I definitely recommend. It seems slow-going, but it really helps ease your body into the process.

I actually just started running again yesterday! I have been on the treadmill off and on over the years but haven't really run since I was about 18! I decided to try again since we live a couple of blocks away from the biggest park in Brooklyn.

I was planning on training for a 5k but on my first run yesterday I ended up jogging a 5k (I did stop twice, though!) so I guess it's like riding a bike for me...my body missed it.

I do need some better shoes, I will probably go get fitted for some since I have some knee issues.

Oh! and I think I have asics cumulous shoes. They were about $80 I think and they are SO comfortable. I used to be in a lot of pain from running and these have helped a lot.

I recommend trying to find a specialty shoe store to get fitted. The one I visited actually let me run around the block in them to get a feel for what I liked.

@MsMamaBear: sounds like what I'm trying to do right now too. I start with a warm up walk about 3-3.5 and then run at 5.0 for a few minutes, back to a brisk walk, then running, until I got at least a mile alternating the two. It usually takes about 13-15 minutes total. My immediate goal is to be able to run at 5.0 for a mile without stopping. It sounds like it should be so easy, but it's a lot of work. I absolutely hate running too.

Eventually I'd like to run a 5k as well without stopping.

BTW the spurts of high intervals do help you burn fast because you get your heart rate up!

@MsMamaBear: No, when I got pregnant I felt like I couldn't do it safely. It was dark when I left for work and got home, and I didn't want to risk falling if I couldn't see well. Now it's too hot, but I do walk three times a day.

I jog off and on -- it always feels great afterward but I have a hard time staying motivated when the weather gets crummy. I use an app called Get Running, which is a couch to 5k program. I had almost gotten through it last year but then took a winter hiatus, and not too long after I started back up this spring I found out I was pregnant. I still do go for occasional jogs but I don't push myself right now, just do what feels comfortable. I hope to really get back on track next spring, after LO comes and I've had a few months to heal up.

I do. I go through phases where I do only running, then I do only workout videos. I can't do long runs on a treadmill (I get bored) so if I have to use I treadmill I do "hill workouts" where I walk up the hill and run "down" it.
