Yup I sure do. Why am I going to keep spending money on new clothes if they are going to get stained again? When we first started at our daycare there was a letter stating that some days do get messy during the learning process. They try to keep it minimal but sometimes things happen. I save his nicer clothes for the weekends. The stains aren't too bad, usually markers, sometimes paint. Or grass stains from playing outside. He hardly ever gets food stains because I don't send messy food to daycare.

I actually love it when he comes home from daycare with paint splatters or markers, or even dirt from playing outside. It tells me he had a lot of fun that day.

I really don't like LO to wear clothes with stains ever, even as play clothes. Her pajamas I am a little more lax about. She does have a few things with barely noticeable stains - basically only I know they are there - but even those are not my favorite to put on her.

When she went to daycare I always tried to dress her cute! Not uncomfortable stuff but I liked how the teachers fussed over her outfits :silly:

I treat all stains and can usually get most of it out. I don't like to put her in stained clothing, even if it's for a "messy" day - I like her to look neat and stained clothes look so sloppy.

If it weren't that noticeable I would. But honestly I am enjoying dressing her up so she has a lot of clothes..so I just use something else.

@Mama Bird: or maybe your lo just is choosing other stuff? My daughters preschool will often have paint as a choice by they also have play doh, sand, and other materials, along with the non messy stuff. I wouldn't worry about it too much! :)

Never on purpose! Sometimes I do miss a new stain and don't realize it till we're out the door.

Now that I've read everyone's comments, I wonder... is it bad that DS doesn't usually come home with stains on his clothing? Does it mean they're not doing enough crafts? :silly:

If it's a stain that happened in the morning before school, yes. If it's an old stain and doesn't come out, then no. It goes in the garbage or donate pile (depending on the stain).

depends on size and location of stain. Terrible poop stains = throw away the onesie. small stain on it + child fighting me to get dressed = wearing it. If I notice it, I avoid it but I am not fighting a wild child over a small stain on a daycare day haha

Less so with my older daughter if I notice it. But with the one year old definitely. Her neckline is usually stained from drool and how messy they let her get during meals. If I didn't send her in stained clothes I would be buying new stuff biweekly!

No, it makes me feel weird, because I wouldn't wear stained clothes. But like @BandDmommy: I'm pretty aggressive with stain treatment. We have one or two outfits in not great condition that I'll let the girls, say, roll in the mud in, but even those aren't really stained. If I can't get a stain out, I send clothes to textile recycling, unless it's a high end item and the stain is tiny. Then I donate.

Eta: I don't judge others who do, though. I just figure their kid is messier than mine or they hate laundry. I'm a weirdo and love laundry! :)

Yes, I don't want to throw out perfectly good clothes because of a stain. DD goes to a nature-based preschool so she mostly wears the same clothes there all the time. The school specifically requests your most kid-friendly outfits.

Ditto to what @littlebug said.
I had the same problem - DH's cousin was giving me trash bags full of ripped and stained clothes. PJs with missing tops or bottoms and seriously worn out. I'm a huge fan of hand-me-downs but NOT when they're so damaged that they're literally garbage.

My daughter is only 7 months old and doesn't really have many hand me downs, so she doesn't have stained clothes really. However, as she gets older I think I won't be too terribly picky about small stains, unless it's from poop! Poop stains are totally different than a little marker stain (actually now I remember she does have a onesie with a marker stain on it now that I would have no problem her wearing).

There's a limit though, sometimes my sister has my nieces in clothes that look so dirty and just gross because of the stains. I know they're just kids but I think I'd be embarrassed to have my kid looking like that...

I think in the future I will definitely send stained clothing in as back-up clothes at daycare. I try to send stuff in that I don't care if I ever see her wear to daycare.

Depending on the size/color yes she may go to daycare in stained clothes (because she is a messy kid.) I do think it's weird that your neighbor gives you stained clothes though!

I donate our stained (and regular) clothes to our local city mission, however they specifically ask for ALL clothes and shoes no matter the condition because they use them for other things as well so I don't feel bad doing so.

I didn't when she was a baby but now that she's a toddler, I sort of have to. She stains almost everything we buy pretty much immediately (either art or food or both) and it's hard to always stay on top of trying to get all the stains out. I have started buying more and more really dark shirts though.

That being said, I wouldn't put her in hand me downs that already had stains. For some reason I'd feel weird about that even though I'm ok sending her in clothes that she stained herself.

Edited to add: It's really ok to donate stained clothes. They use those types of clothes for things like making filling for pillows and furniture. They still get used!

Depends on the stain! I sent something today as a 'backup' outfit that had a shadow stain. You could barely see it. He's 12.5 months and gets stains on everything because he has the eating manners of a saint bernard.

A slight stain that I didn't notice until we were almost at daycare - yes. A real stain that I saw right away - no. I don't like stained clothes! But honestly, my son never comes home with stained clothes from daycare. They most do an excellent job at keeping them clean while eating and doing crafts. I think I got this from my mom. If the shirt is stained, I don't put it on them. It goes in the goodwill pile.

Sometimes I have, yes. His clothes get really dirty at daycare. Mealtimes seem to be way messier than at home, which makes sense since they have more kids to keep track of. After an entire summer of wearing the same clothes over and over, there were some faint stains that Oxy Clean wouldn't get out, especially ones with a lot of white. A couple times I put him in shirts and realized they had stuff on them. I wasn't going to fight with him to get a different shirt on. And I need a certain amount of clothes in rotation so I won't bother to get rid of them until we're totally done with that season's stuff.

I wouldn't give them to anyone thinking they'd be grateful to have them though, lol.

I think it's really weird to give someone else stained clothing, unless you have discussed it and they have specifically said they want it/would take it! I won't keep stained things from LO1 for LO2. Depending on the stain, I may let LO1 keep wearing it.

ETA: I usually donate things that I wouldn't keep between LOs. If it has a light stain, I would still donate (and probably let LO wear it until she outgrew it). If it's something obvious & major, I just ditch it.

LO is only 10 months but I don't keep stained clothes... and now it's just mostly drool stains, etc. He wears stained onesies underneath t-shirts, but that's it. I just throw stained things out, I don't plan on using them for baby #2 already stained, and I wouldn't think anyone else would want them either.

I sent LO in a stained pair of pants today, but I didn't notice until he got out of the car. Oh well. He got chalk all over his pants two weeks ago, and it didn't wash out like I thought it did. I'll try to treat the stain again and hope it comes out. Not a big problem. I don't think most people will even notice.

I do try to dress him properly, and I won't let him wear sweats or character shirts to school. Luckily he hasn't expressed any opinion in the clothes I dress him in.
