@Thehistoryofus: agree, that is why I have been setting an alarm. Newborns sleep a lot and don't necessarily wake up. However, DD is starting to wake up on her own more now at 2 weeks old so I think I can stop setting my alarm so much. I'd much rather wake up to a crying baby than my alarm clock!

I never had to, either she woke me up or my boobs did. Plus I wrote down every feeding for the first month to keep track.

I never did, since LO was gaining enough weight my pedi said to follow her lead.

Most babies actually loose weight after birth. It is recommended to wake them to feed every 3 hours or so until they get back up to their birth weight.

I kept track of the time on an app for the first month, and after that, just remembered when his last feeding was. In the beginning it's important to feed them every 2-3 hours to help them gain weight and establish your supply, but after that a lot of people go to feeding on demand, whenever baby gives hunger cues.

I never set an alarm. Either the babe or my boobs told me.

ETA: The first few days I did keep track with an itzbeen timer. After he showed good weight gain at his 5 and 12 day appointments our pedi said we could let him go up to 5 hours between feedings. He always gave very strong hunger cues long before that though.

I did it on the first day and didnt need to. Just like @sarac: you most likely will know or you can write down the time or get the baby connect app or something similar

You will know, rest assured. Either your boobs or your crying baby will wake you up. If both of those are food you should be sleeping! You've got a good attitude about it - you'll get the hang of everything quickly.

I feel pretty dumb for asking this, as I'm sure it'll be obvious when the time comes, but since newborns eat every 2-3ish hours (right?), did you set your alarm? Or did you just KNOW when they need to eat/did they give you cues every feeding time? I'm due in 4 weeks and I feel helplessly unprepared for our baby, even though I'm sure I'll get the hang of feeding/changing/etc. real quick :)
