I don't anymore, like @Mrs. Jacks I don't like that they think they own my photos, and with the constantly changing privacy policies I just had enough. I'd rather have them private (my flickr account) or public (by blogging) and not think they are private when they actually aren't.

I post links to my blog posts on Facebook, so people can see the photos if they want to click through, and if they are too lazy to click, then who cares if they see the pictures?

@Mrs. Jacks: I have a problem with that, too.

We share some photos online, but through email or on a password protected, invite-only, website that does not own our photos once they are posted. Only DH can invite people to the album (he's the admin), and we keep in touch with our family that way. Like many others here, most of my family is also far away, so we needed something. I've also had problems with FB's privacy settings in the past changing without me getting a notification (it used to be that nobody could see my profile picture in searching my name- until that wasn't the case anymore; I found out by accident). The online identity thing is also a big deal to us- we don't want Facebook owning photos of DS before he's even old enough to consent to that. Even if they don't do anything with them, it's still weird.

We made a fan page for our LO. I can "ban" anyone from it if someone random likes or comments on his page.
I don't know, maybe I'm just not as paranoid about the image sharing thing... I might change my mind later, but for now I find it easy to share photos this way. I get annoyed when friends have babies and then never ever share a photo!

Yes, but only to those in my close friends setting. I do it once a week or so since we have family all over and they love it! Convenience wins out since blog updating is too time consuming with my current schedule.

I don't post any pictures on FB, random people don't need to be seeing them. I email a short album out every month to close friends & family, and I'm really good about printing hard copies for myself, my mom, and MIL. They like to show their friends, and since they watch DS for free for us, it's the least I can do!

I post occasional pictures on facebook. Our friends are all over the country and all of DH's extended family and a lot of friends live overseas. There's other ways to share but fb for most of them is the easiest. I don't share pictures on baby sites or a blog or anything where I don't have some control over who sees them and I keep my online identity secret so even when I talk about her it can't be traced to her. I do occasionally post facebook updates about her but they're all innocuous things about learning to walk or playing with the dogs.

@2PeasinaPod: She used them for a digital picture frame she gave to DH's grandfather. We were at his grandparent's house when I noticed that my pictures were popping up there with some frequency. After that, I learned to be very careful with what she received and could look at. She's always had trouble with respecting our boundaries, especially pictures.

@Bookworm: Yep, as long as you're the sole owner of the site, you can play with the permissions. They have a page where they ask you if want the pics to be linked to social sites or the "save picture as." You can uncheck these. I did. I wouldn't be surprised if my MIL attempted to screengrab some of the pics, but it would take a lot of effort to cut them down, etc. My mom requests pics, so I send her the album individually.

@cascademom: We will be doing a private Shutterfly too!

Due to my husband's full time job as a cop, we will not be sharing on Facebook, Instagram, etc. A 'client' of the police dept (i.e., a thug) did something with the photos of a friend's infant son that was apparently so bad that DH won't even tell me what it was. So DH is ADAMANT that we don't share pics on social media, or on sites where they can be screen grabbed and saved.

I really don't have a problem sharing her photo. I don't put naked photos of her up on Facebook and if someone shares her photo, I know it and can block it if I'm uncomfortable with it. I guess I understand why some people are uncomfortable sharing their lo's photos but I like my friends and family who are far away seeing photos of my lo.

I keep sharing information about little ones identity to a minimum on social media...basically restricted to my profile picture and a select few other pictures. I try very hard not to share LO's name also. I will comment with things like "my son", "someone", "little guy" etc.

There is a large number of pictures posted after he was first born by a younger college friend (kid-less) who I kindly asked to remove them and she basically said I was crazy and kept them up! It was a big fat slap in the face.

We decided to keep picture and name sharing to only these select few because a co-worker had a random FB friend (didn't know them IRL) STEAL their child's identity and create a blog using pictures from the co-workers FB of her daughter and their daughters name as if it were this women's own! Super scary! I wish I wasn't so paranoid because I am proud of my LO and would like to show him off, but this has the crap scared out of me.

My FB is mainly people I know, but it's the people they know, whom I do not, that worry me the most.

Only Instagram photos are shared on FB. Even then, those are restricted because of my issues with privacy and inlaws. I have a Shutterfly family site where pictures can be seen, but not screen grabbed or saved. Again, it's a MIL safety guard. She lifted a number of pictures when DH and I were dating. I felt very violated about my privacy and my images, so I've been restrictive ever since.

The photos that are shared on FB are usually from friends/family and then a photographer friend. I don't usually allow them to tag me though so my LO is still somewhat anonymous... I kind of agree with your husband. Not sure how my LO would feel about me posting his pictures everywhere when he's older so when I do post it's usually more privately (google+ or photostream) I've posted pictures here though, I can't help myself sometimes!! But again, I feel it's still a little more anonymous is that makes any sense?? Maybe I'm just fooling myself haha.

We do not share photos of LO on Facebook right now (or publicly online in general). Partly it's because their privacy policies change so often, but also because my DH feels very strongly about protecting LO's right to create his own online identity when he's older. He wants DS to be able to choose how much/little he shares, including in terms of photos. I think people think we're crazy though!

What about you? Anyone else shy away from Facebook and public photo sharing of their LO(s)? Or are we just nuts?
